Seeing as he is wanting to have the Qatar World Cup to be held in the winter, does this mean we will have to halt our season to accomodate it and play later into the summer.

Or will we have to keep up the fixtures and the teams with players in the competition will have to use their squad. The latter would be interesting.

FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

I think they will push for us to have a ‘January Break’, so they can play the World Cup. I have no doubt that Blatter will cite the bad weather we get around Christmas and New Year as a good reason whilst we should comply. But if we have a bad December with clubs having to postpone games, then yes, our season could end up going on well into June, maybe even July. The knock-on effect would be a very short pre-season, and no doubt this would have an effect on our game, and possibly the quality of it. Blatter would love that. I believe he is highly jealous of the ‘profile’ of the Premier League.

However, I would not be surprised if we WITHDRAW from the competition, provided we have qualified anyway. I think some other countries might do the same, however the likes of the Bundesliga, and the Dutch League, already have a break in January, anyway, so it wouldn’t effect them as it would affect us. It’s putting pressure on us all the time, isn’t it? I really do wish we would tell FIFA to get stuffed.

The thought of a World Cup held in Qatar, really doesn’t excite me at all. And initially, the proposal of their bid was that the stadiums would be indoor-style, with special AIR CONDITIONING. Obviously that part of their ‘offer’ has gone out of the window.

International football has become a ‘chore’, hasn’t it?

I must admit, watching England is not the same, whether that is the lack of passion compared to what we grew up with or if it is the amount of games they play now (too many friendlies).

Due to this world cup being quite a while away yet, it wouldn’t surpirse me if the FA considered splitting the league in two, or reducing the games or even introcing the winter break ahead of it happening. Especially if they are to get the same or more revenue for less games (oh the cynic in me)

As often seems to be the case it would seem that Sepp Blatter has opened his mouth without engaging his brain whereas the dates of the 2022 World Cup are concerned

He is basically asking almost the whole of European football to completely mess up their schedules for a number of seasons & as some of these FA’s are amongst the most powerful I can’t see it going through

I take VAT’s point about some countries having a mid-winter break anyway but shifting the world cup will effect them just as much. At the moment they have a bit of time off & then some fitness training the remaining time off + friendlies etc.. & I believe lasts anything from 2-4 weeks.
The World Cup itself takes the best part of 4-5 weeks to complete. On top of that the managers of the national sides always want 3-4 weeks with their squads for training & friendlies. The clubs would not then want their players coming straight back & playign domestic football as come the seasons end they would all be crying about fatigue & injuries so add another 2-3 weeks on to that.
So you could be looking at anything from a 2-3month break in the middle of the season which basically takes you to the start of the next season
I know that the summer world cup effects some countries seasons anyway so FIFA would have to look at how they adapt but these countries have been doing it for years. Its also not something that could be a one off & then back to normal the season after too so would have to be phased in over a number of seasons & european football has the euro championships every 2 years so that aint possible either

the only other option as someone has mentioned is to get the clubs to play through the world cup but I can hardly imagine the United’s, barcelona’s & real madrid’s of this world (not to mention all the other cluubs) being happy about seeing virtually all their 1st team squads decimiated for 2-3 months

Was the last World Cup THAT long? Personally, I thought they flew through it. (good, as it was sh…not very good)
Basically, it would mean all January’s games are put back, as are any postponed games from December. It’s a no go. As for playing on through the World Cup. No way.

Blatter and co still think that people think that international football is still the top of the game. It isn’t.

It’s up to our FA to stand up to them and say ‘no way’.

Just a thought, but how old will Blatter be in 2022? Might be in a timber suit, by then. (Best Russian Oak, probably  )

The last world cup ran from June 11th to July 11th which was 4 weeks & 3 days (just checked the BBC website!!)
Like I said, 4 to 5 weeks for the tournament, 3 weeks prior to that training for it & a minimum of 2 or 3 weeks after. Its a complete no go & is not somethign that i can see any European nation agreeing to (with the exception of the Scandavian countries who are on there close season then anyway & maybe Russia too). I just can’t see how its workable

i think our FA would need to make sure that it wasn’t going it alone though by standing up to this particular idea. I think as the recent vote showed, we aint exactly the most popular country in the world. It would create the biggest problems in Britain but its also major problems for the countries that do have winter breaks too & I believe some of em are already making noises that they wouldn;t agree to it

As far as I’m concerened Qatar’s bid was successful (amongst other things) on the guarantee that they could hold games in June. Now they’ve been awarded it they are rumoured to be saying that its a problem – if it is & they can’t stick to what they proposed then they should be stripped of the right to hold it. Although I can’t see that happening
