Even the U21’s can’t bloody score from 12 yards. We are arrogant when it comes to tournament football and always believe we can win the games and so we ignore the significance of penalty shootouts. Therefore we don’t coach our players enough. Why the hell do we not have a penalty coach, Le Tiss maybe or anyone who had a history of scoring every time from the spot.
28 June 2017 at 10:10 am #160116Its impossible to coach someone to never miss a penalty, a penalty shoot out is a lottery, if the keeper guesses correct he saves it if he doesnt you score.
Unless you blaze it over the bar or two yards wide, now thats unforgivable, at least make the keeper work and get it on target!
What pisses me off is the guys who try to pass the ball into the net arrogantly and end up with egg on their face.Fuck the EFL

Like everything else in the modern game taking a penalty has been over complicated. If a player cant be coached on how to find the corner of the goal he should not be on the field.
28 June 2017 at 11:52 am #160118It’s an ingrained mindset after years of near misses something we’ll struggle to shake off.
Sports psychologist and sh”t loads of practising is the key.28 June 2017 at 12:10 pm #160119we ignore the significance of penalty shootouts. Therefore we don’t coach our players enough. We practiced them after every training session, the Germans didn’t at all.
28 June 2017 at 12:20 pm #160120Taking a penalty during normal play is totally different to a penalty shoot-out. The latter is more down to how one holds their nerve. I have always said that had england won the “original” shoot-out back in 1990, we would not now be having this discussion.
28 June 2017 at 2:52 pm #160123It’s reassuring to know that amidst the current political turmoil some things remain reassuringly consistent and unchanging.
28 June 2017 at 3:00 pm #160124The future certainly looks bright!
