Birmingham City have pulled out of the race to sign Wigan Athletic winger Charles N’Zogbia.
The Blues had an £8million offer plus add-ons rejected by the Latics last week, and have decided not to up their bid.
Wigan are thought to want approximately £15million for the Frenchman, but Birmingham chief executive Peter Pannu says the St Andrews side are not going to pay over the odds.
“We have had an offer rejected for the player and our valuations are different,” he told the Express and Star.
“We don’t think it’s right to go any higher at this stage so therefore we withdraw.”
N’Zogbia has had an excellent season at the DW Stadium, after he was snapped up by Wigan in a £6million swap-deal from Newcastle in January last year.
Birmingham have already spent £12m on goalkeeper Ben Foster from Manchester United and tall striker Nikola Zigic from Valencia.
If they spend another £5m they will have splashed more cash than the last three transfer windows combined.
Meanwhile, it appears Rangers’ Kris Boyd is not heading to St Andrews as Alex McLeish’s interest has reportedly cooled.
