Bob says Boselli loan may still happen

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed that out-of-favour striker Mauro Boselli is set to join Genoa on loan.

The Argentine forward of Italian descent joined the Latics from Estudiantes last summer, but he has struggled to make an impact.

The 25-year-old has not scored in eight Premier League appearances and a recent injury has seen him not feature in the club’s last two outings.

Martinez has conceded that Boselli has struggled to adapt to the physical nature of English football and hopes that regular football elsewhere will boost confidence.

“It’s not 100 per cent yet. We’ve been exploring all the possibilities,” he said on Sky Sports News. “As we know Mauro has been adapting to the British game.

“At the moment it’s been really, really difficult. We need to have Mauro at his best – the Mauro Boselli that we signed and the goalscorer that has got a magnificent reputation in world football.

“At the moment he needs to find a little bit of football happiness. He needs games to allow him to be himself.

“When you come from South America it can be tricky adapting to the physicality of the Premier League.

“At the moment I feel that for Mauro to play five months in Italy or Spain, it will be what he needs, just to make that jump from South America into the Premier League. Then we will get the real Mauro Boselli that is going to be a massive asset for our football club.

“We are trying to finalise that deal. At the moment it is not 100 per cent because Mauro has still got a little tear in his hamstring, and that is the reason why he has not been involved in the last two games, but over the next few hours we will find out what is the final destination for him.”
