In the cold light of day they will have to weigh up his track record Vs his potential. I think it should prove too risky for Liverpool to appoint someone based on potential. As for Bobby, he would have to consider that Liverpool will demand instant success and his rise to glory could be very short lived if he doesn’t deliver. Bobby would be better proving himself at the Latics for another two years, before making a big step up !
Roberto Martinez has insisted he is fully focused on Wigan’s future, despite speculation linking him with a move elsewhere.
After securing the Latics’ eighth straight season in the Premier League, the Spaniard has called on fans to celebrate during the home game against Wolves on Sunday.
And Martinez, who has been linked with Liverpool and West Brom, is also committed to ensuring the club continues to grow for the next decade.
He said: “All I am concerned about is that the football club is still growing and continues to do so for the next 10 years.
Disrespectful
“I am the manager of an incredible football club and any talk of other clubs – especially when there is nothing on the table – is extremely disrespectful.
“There has been talk in the press, but I have another three years on my contract and I don’t see it as an issue at all.
“If one day that’s a decision that needs to be made, then I would look at it, but it’s not the case at the moment.”
Celebrate
Wigan boast the second lowest average attendance in the top flight, but Martinez wants fans to come in their droves to the DW Stadium on Sunday to celebrate the club’s achievement.
He wants this to include a minute’s applause after eight minutes in recognition of the number of top-flight seasons the club have secured
He continued: “We’ll obviously be trying to win the football match, but it’s just as important that there is a festive atmosphere at the DW Stadium.
“We need to realise that eight seasons in the Premier League is an incredible achievement – and that goes for all the players and managers who have contributed to that.
“I want the stadium to reflect the fact we have achieved something and it will be a proud day for us all.”
Not surprised (my post, CHRISTMAS CAME, 4 days ago)
Per DAILY MAIL today ….
‘Liverpool Managing director Ian Ayre is under scrutiny as the club’s American owners continue a review of the club
With three high-profile casualties already, and manager Kenny Dalglish worried about his own position this summer, there is no indication the Anfield purge is over….
If Dalglish digs in and resists the changes afoot at Anfield, replacements such as Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez will be assessed’.
Whatever happens to Bobby the truth is, he has nurtured a team of mediocre players, many of them young, new to the prem and eventually has got them playing superb football.
On the other hand king Kenny has got himself a shed load of superstars that have cost the earth and in terms of Liverpool football club has had a bad season with respect to the EPL.[OK he won a cup and did well in the other]
Whichever way you look at it, if I’m in charge of an illustrious club such as Liverpool, I may just want to try my luck with someone of the hilt of Martinez. B)
Ive said it before and I will say it again bobby will be crucified at a top four club because the said top four club will not give him time to devolop that club
