Now heavily odds on with some bookies to got to Villa. Was 12-1 a couple of weeks back.

This would make absolutely no sense to me. A team in absolute disarray which finished below us and an impatient Chairman who expects success with little investment.
15 May 2012 at 2:47 am #87266Hopefully, he won’t.
If he did, however what chance Rodallega and Diame turning up at Villa Park next season ??
Plus A N Other under contract (Moses, McCarthy…) ?
Stick around at Wigan (player investment – top 10 finish, wait for bigger club), ..you know it makes sense
15 May 2012 at 12:12 pm #87273Just because the papers say he’s interested don’t make it so.
My personal view is that he will be here next season and probably the one after that, too. Assuming Whelan’s financial strategy remains the same, then as long as he doesn’t ake a compete horlicks of it, ie get relegated, and delivers steady progress over the next two seasons then his star will be in the ascendency even more.
15 May 2012 at 12:35 pm #87275In my opinion, the reason Martinez didn’t take the Villa job last time was a clever choice. i.e. he didn’t think they’d wait for him to get the team playing his way and then he’d be looking for another job after a few months. Stay here, keep the faith and improve your stock.
Are Villa’s expectations so high now? How high are our expectations after the end to our season?
For the record, Martinez never went lower than 6/4 on Betfair and he’s now 7/2. Lambert is 9/4 fav. (Just for you Locker :P )
15 May 2012 at 2:29 pm #87280Bookies odds on Managerial appointments are notoriously insane. He is now 4-6 with some. I like what Bobby said this morning “All that counts is the good of Wigan Athletic”. With that quote its hard to see him going anywhere.
15 May 2012 at 3:37 pm #87282I understand the papers using this as a story – they’ve got to fill the gap to the Euros somehow. But why are we, as Latics fans, even giving this credence?
Look at the final league table.
Wigan finished 15th, Villa finished below us at 16th.
Why on Earth would he want to go to Villa?
15 May 2012 at 5:31 pm #87288Whilst we can all put forward very sound reasons why he should stay I’m sure Martinez would leave should the right offer come along. What that offer might be is anyone’s guess but I think he is likely to be more receptive to offers – I believe he didn’t even speak to Villa last time – this time around.
