‘Martinez concluded the session with a further affirmation of his love for Wigan Athletic.
“We are privileged to be here, as a part of Wigan Athletic. The next 12 games are vital and, I can guarantee, once we’re through them we’ll never look back”.’
Seems very confident of survival and taking us forward and I share in his optimism.
With due respect he was speaking with Cockney Latic, WASC, YOTAC, Vital and others… unfortunately some of us work and can’t get articles up as quick as some, but I am sure John will get round to it… It takes a up a lot of time actually being able to go on these interviews, never mind write it up.
Maybe Loudmouth or Vat69 could do the honours next time…… :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:
No names, but I have only ever once given the opportunity to one person I haven’t met off this board, and they didn’t take it up…. oh, and they were a dark sider…..
There’s no doubting that Bobby talks a good game but then so do many people down the pub & it doesn’t make em good managers.
I would just pick up on a few points though which stick out through the back slapping & rallying calls:
“Well, the third of those windows has just closed” – technically its been 4 windows since Bobby arrived but if we’re taking it as 3 windows since his initial interview was given then the club is in a more perilous league position that it was prior to those 3 windows so I don’t share his optimism or his claims that he has a better squad – or if he has then he aint got them performing well enough
“Last season, we were very inconsistent….. This season has been very different, with much more consistency” – Last season at this stage Latics were 16th with 25 points. This season we’re 18th with 26 points. I’m not sure how that qualifies as being “much more” consistent
“next 12 games are vital and, I can guarantee, once we’re through them we’ll never look back” – not sure how he can possibly “guarantee” anything but surely with that comment he’s made a rod for his own back?? If Latics go down & struggle a bit then he’s nto upheld his guarantee. If Latics stay up & next season is the same mainly tepid, struggling, drivel we’ve seen this season then again he’s not upheld his guarantee
All in all I think the man has many flaws as a manager which get exposed most match days. he aint dumb though & in his interviews with the fanzines he knows exactly the sort of stuff to say to wind up coming out smelling of roses i.e. “my love for the club” etc…
I’ve seen Whelan do exactly the same thing at fans forums in the past when there’s been a bit of grief flying around the room & a few “come on we’re wigan, lets take this club forward” & everyone’s joining in & chanting his name
Well said TyldesleyLatic,as i have said in previous postings the man is a master of spin so he is still spouting off about the other level and we win one game in yonks and all of a sudden we are footballs version of the harlem globetrotters  MARTINEZ OUT
Despite some tough times this season, it’s still easy to believe in Roberto Martinez. He’s a Latics Mon to the core, and I’d rather get relegated with Bob at the helm, trying to do things the right way, than stay up with the likes of the big fat headed fool, Allardyce, and his awful, hoofing style.
” We’ll never look back ” Thats because we wont have to do as there will be no one behind us !! ;)
No, we’ll be looking UP! :happy-jumpeveryone:

Funny how the meeting comes off the back of our first win in ages, eh? :naughty:

Some of his comments are amazing. “More consistent”? Yet we are currently in the relegation places.
i reckon he’s probly on about the fact that since the chelsea match, we havent let in more than 3, there have been no 5-0, 9-1s or any other of the horrendous results we saw last season
