Can we just quit with the name calling and so forth……..I mean what does it matter if someone is a bit “big boned”.
Fattist comments should not be tolerated!
5 March 2010 at 1:47 pm #25296No hang on fellas, i think natdan is bob on the money here. Powder-puff interviewing techniques indeed.Natdan, to back up your point, please dig out your copies of similar meetings that Wenger, Ferguson, Benitez, Bruce, Moyes and all the other premier league managers held with their fan’s representatives.
I’m particularly interested in the minute from the discussion between Ferguson and some out of work hobo who asked him “why did you sell Ronaldo, you useless drunken scottish c***”
Yeah, like when those ‘extras from Shameless’ surrounded Charlton outside Old Trafford when the Glazer deal happened “Bobb-eh! Bobb-eh! What’s happening?” and he brushed them away, back into the gutter.
5 March 2010 at 1:51 pm #25297Glad to see you are back on the side of reason Vat……. ;)
5 March 2010 at 1:59 pm #25298Well, there was that much negative flak flying about, it was easy to get caught up by it.
5 March 2010 at 2:09 pm #25299Fair do’s….All I know is it’s going to be a tough last part of the season, and the last thing the club needs is every body booing and moaning. It is time to put the past firmly behind us and push on.
I really believe what ever happens the club will grow and prosper from it. 8-)

i like the positivity off martinez hopefully it will work out the way he wants it too. Looking farward too seeing this new spanish kid and also who we’s going to sign in summer, jst fingers crossed he can get us through the rest of our season.
5 March 2010 at 3:50 pm #25306What a poor interview, there has been no specific questions asked and it appears all the fat men in the photo would have been sat there star struck.I’m sure if you had been there natdan you would have been Dimbleby, Marcotti, Morgan, Snow and Wossy all rolled into one nailing the clueless Spaniard to the cross time and time again with your superior footballing knowledge
There is a world of difference between banging away at a keyboard the same inane nonsense every day and being a skilled media interviewer and very few master it. They took your questions and Roberto agreed to meet and answer them, what more do you want?
Only time will tell for the majority of us whether it is “spin” or he can deliver against his ideas but sadly I fear that whatever he does he will never be good enough for people like yourself
5 March 2010 at 4:00 pm #25307Can I just say first that Bobby is to be congratulated for doing this interview. I don’t you’ll find many top flight managers that grounded & eager to appear to the fans that they care as much about the club as we do.
But what I will say is that just coz Bobby says it, doesn’t mean its so. For example:“He deliberately held back on James McCarthy because he knew he was too green to throw in at the beginning of the season. He wanted to do this with Scotland and Gomez, but needs must and he had to bring them in too early and so we haven’t yet seen the best of these two” – the bit about Scotland & Gomez I would have to question the truthfulness of. For starters when he signed Gomez he banged on about how he would be our creative player who much of the play would go through. Yet now he’s saying he didn’t wanna play him that much so soon. As for easing Scotland in, is he now saying he was happy to start the season with only 2 centre forwards he thought were ready to play. Yes you can argue he later says there were players he thought were good enough that weren’t but did he not stop to wonder why, if they were good enough, that Bruce (& to a lesser extent Hutchings) would not have been playing them. If so then he’s either very stupid or very naive
“If you look at McCarthy, Moses, Hugo and Marcelo, we have as good a strike force as anybody especially at home” – No matter how many times he tells himself & us that, its never going to be true
“He still believes we are just two windows from having that team that will push for a top eight place within two year” – Didn’t he initially say that he needed 3 transfer windows??? Now its 4??
“Kirkland in the best form of his career” – No he isn’t. he’s not even in the best form of his time at Wigan Athletic
So yes it was a good gesture for him to do this interview but its done nowt to convince me that he is capable of turning things around for us. If anything its tipped me more the other way
5 March 2010 at 4:14 pm #25311You could well be right Tyldesley, but your response – and this isn’t a criticism – is exactly the reason these people don’t stick their ehads above the parapet to do this kind of thing too often. They really can’t win, can they?
5 March 2010 at 4:42 pm #25314Hats off to Bob for doing the interview, especially how things are going at the moment. Unfortunately after having read the interview I can’t share his positive out look.
I want to believe we are heading in the right direction that Gomes and Scotland will come good that we are building to push onto the top 8 but I just don’t see it. As the season has gone on we have got worse look at our points tally we don’t look like scoring and can’t defend which is a bad mix.
Bob was a legend as a player but know matter how many fans forums he does and what a nice man he is and how great his fantasies are he is just not up to the job. If we give him another 3 transfer windows we will be well and truly stuffed,if not this season he will take us down with his poor signings, tactics and awful substitutions
And know matter where we are I will still be a season ticket holder but I would prefer it to be in the Premier League.
5 March 2010 at 4:47 pm #25315Maybe so, but they can win
IMO it would have been far better to say somet along the lines of “Scotland & Gomez haven’t adapted as quickly as I would have liked but it was never going to be easy making the step up. I’ve seen enough recently, both in training & during games to convince me that they are now starting to get to grips with the increased demands at this level & believe they will both come into their own between now & the end of the season”
Its just my opinion, but by saying what he did he’s either forgotten what he said when they signed or he’s lying & he hopes people won’t rememberBoth this interview & the fans forum have been reported by those there as “well he said it so it must be true” but when you really look at what he’s said it doesn’t amount to much
Its not a criticism of the way whoever wrote this or the one from earlier in the season has done it. People who were at the fans forum did exactly the same thing on the messageboard & I’ve been at fans forums & found myself applauding & chanting Whelan’s name with everyone else when he’s come out wi somet that contradicts somet he’s said months or even minutes before
Its also easy for those who weren’t there to say “you should have asked him this?” or “why didn’t you pull him up on that?”5 March 2010 at 7:38 pm #25325What a poor interview, there has been no specific questions asked and it appears all the fat men in the photo would have been sat there star struck.

Not forgetting Parkinson…..though I think natdan would be more along the lines of Clive Anderson interviewing the Bee Gees.
5 March 2010 at 8:45 pm #25330I didnt expect the negative comments on my post after all you are all positive thinkers.
The questions were not asked that should have been asked.
Brilliant Bobby does an interview, Brilliant he is a nice man, Brilliant the people asking the questions were star struck….we are still playing poor football with players with no interest (in my view down to the manager) he still thinks Gomez and Scotland are going to come good, he still thinks we are playing well, the fact is we are not playing well, we do not look like winning games, we very rarely have a shot on goal, the “experts” (pricxs) on sky sports have commented 4 times I have been told by arm chair united supporters that we have played in the worst game ever, so something must be wrong.
Do i have superior football knowlege to Martinez, well if this is his best then yes I do.
Poor questions, start struck fans, same position.
I will be there if we get relegated yes, and probably still moaning about the worst but nicest manager we have ever had!!!!
If Martinez came and told me how to run my business I would take his comments on board thank him and then move on not taking a blind bit of notice what he said as we are doing ok and do not look like going down at the end of the season. I would make changes if we did and run the business in a different way!
5 March 2010 at 9:03 pm #25331We’d be in a relegation battle regardless of the manager.
The big difference is Martinez cares for the club, wants to be here, and build for the future.
We have too many players who think they’ve paid their dues after a single season, the sooner they are moved out the better.
Whatever division we are in next season we’ll have a Latics team that will represent the club far better than most of the current lot.
5 March 2010 at 9:06 pm #25332Tyldesley:
Bobby had the preseason playing with Kapo, de Ridder, Koumas and Cattermole in midfield, and to put the point bluntly, played very well in there for preseason. Just as the season starts he loses Cattermole to Sunderland, Koumas and de Ridder showed their true true colours and Kapo went naff and then got injured. So basically what he said re: Gomez is true, he had no alternative but to throw him on, instead of letting him ease his way in.
Scotland was banging them in last season and could have done with being eased in rather than being the ‘main man’ up front. Cho, Bouaouzan and King all featured in preseason and all failed when it came to playing in the prem….
“If you look at McCarthy, Moses, Hugo and Marcelo, we have as good a strike force as anybody especially at home” – No matter how many times he tells himself & us that, it’s never going to be true
Opinion I know, but I think it is a good strong, young attacking group.“He still believes we are just two windows from having that team that will push for a top eight place within two year” – Didn’t he initially say that he needed 3 transfer windows??? Now its 4??
I think you’ll find he said he needed 2 or 3 transfer windows at the fans forum in November.“Kirkland in the best form of his career” – No he isn’t. He’s not even in the best form of his time at Wigan Athletic
Arguable, whatever… it’s a matter of our opinion, but he sees him every day in training and in the gym, so I won’t argue. After talking to him face to face, you can see he believes in what he is doing, believes he is so close to seeing this team click into place and just as importantly is not hiding.
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
