Talking out your arse, do you think dw created wafc, if you didnt know we played at springfield park and we came from non league without dw,
Non League or Premier League the likes ‘Bobbyswigan’ are not needed at our club!
Maybe he would like Whelan to chain our best players to one of the turnstiles to stop them from leaving?
Or maybe sign players on £80,000pw contracts and watch us crumble in to financial and ultimatly footballing oblivion i.e Leeds United?

Dave Whelan saved us from going under. At no stage did I say he was there at the start or say anything about our history!

Yes thanks. :DHow the hell some people still see beyond Whelan being a tight-arse is beyond me.
True, he stepped in and basically saved us, in 1995.
True, his backing has seen our rise up the leagues.
But if anybody is daft enough to actually believe that it is ALL down to him bankrolling the club, then you are seriously deluded. He’s run it business-like, I.E. player out, player in. There’s been no massive financial outlay by him, as any money we have spent, has been levelled-off by sales.
Either the Mirror or the People on Sunday, came out and said something which had me spitting feathers. There was an article on every club owner. “Who owns the clubs?” For Whelan, it came out with an absolute pearler…..no….wait for this, you’ll LOVE it….not:
“Built his JJB Sports empire and built up the club from nothing”.
That’s what it said. “Nothing”. So obviously, we were all watching a ‘mirage’ prior to 1995 then, eh? :roll:
We may not have been so good prior to his arrival. But we HAD a bloody football club. Christ, we even had a SUPPORTERS club. We were valued, then. :?
‘Wigan Athletic FC. Formed 1995’, or so they’d like you to believe.
There still is a SUPPORTERS club.
Although the supporters CLUB, where we meet, just isn’t the same. Something more permanent needs to be sorted although this isn’t going to be soon as the plans to move us to the East Stand are now firmly dropped.

I did actually mean, ‘the club’, as in the old club where we used to meet and ‘chew the cud’ over matches. Can still see Joe and Jeff sat at the table, taking travel bookings, with Danny close by as well.
Watching the results come in.
Magnificent days, those.
Prior to the Premiership, I had started to enjoy the John Smiths suite in the South Stand. I mean, ok, David Speedie wasn’t much cop as pre match comperé and comedian, but the two pint ‘steins’ were decent. Was starting to generate a good feeling…and then he took it off Joe Public and made it corporate. All for the love of ££££££££££££££’s.
