Might be some truth in this:-

If the manager wants a new forward we might have to make room2 July 2017 at 5:07 pm #160178I think we need to sort a keeper out first.
2 July 2017 at 6:56 pm #160179If we have to put up with the lone striker nonsense and passing out from the back then it perhaps wouldn’t be a bad idea to fund the purchase of a proven keeper rather than Doyle with the sale of Bogle. After all we still have Will Grigg.
Cooky was saying there would be some players leaving. I hope he has an idea who these are because I will be very disappointed if they have been on the jolly to Spain and really pissed off if players we intend to move on are participating in any part of pre-season activities.2 July 2017 at 8:44 pm #160180I’d be disapppointed if the “players leaving” was half the bloody team again – despite sharpe’s statement that only a small few would leave.
Here we go again on yet another rebuilding.

3 July 2017 at 12:46 am #160188Well Standish Mon if watching what we have put up with in recent years is your cup of tea well you are quite welcome to your view but there is only one thing to say about what we have endured lately and that’s FFS.

All but three teams in the Premier League play that way, and over half of the teams in the Championship.
But it you think chucking another striker up front in lieu of a midfielder will guarantee you exciting football, then here’s a FFS back a you!

I wonder if folk had the same arguments years ago when 442 first appeared, leading to the demise of the “old fashioned” formation of 2 defenders, 3 midfielders & 5 forwards.
I can imagine folk back then saying; “Whats this 2 up front only shyte” FFS!
3 July 2017 at 11:07 pm #160207Actually 4-4-2 developed from 4-3-3, and before that (in the 50s and the time of the great Hungarian team) was WM formation – 3-2-2-3, with the front middle 2 being overlapping wingers.
Before that there were always 3 at the back (number 5 being a stopper centre half) from 1921 when the offside law was changed from requiring 3 defenders to the current 2, meaning the defending team need someone else at the back.
So there wasn’t a change overnight from 2-3-5 to 4-4-2.4 July 2017 at 12:29 am #160208Well Standish Mon if watching what we have put up with in recent years is your cup of tea well you are quite welcome to your view but there is only one thing to say about what we have endured lately and that’s FFS.

We know it doesn’t have to be boring, but with the players we had, and playing against the standard of opposition we were playing against we weren’t good enough at it and it was very boring to watch.
It just annoys many that when we were crying out for an alternative every manager was too stubborn to at least try something different.Occasionally when were in the PL it worked and looked alright but in the Championship it didn’t work for us last year or the previous time we got relegated.
In league one last time it worked, and hopefully this time it might work again as we should have better players than the opposition. Time will tell.
4 July 2017 at 10:36 pm #160229Surprised nobody has commented yet about the idea of moving a hungry young proven striker with a Nob End reject.
This bloke isn’t an Andy Saville, Lee Ashcroft or even a Graham Lancashire.
Please let this just be a silly rumour and let us utilise the talents of Bogle and do as Nuneaton says and get a proper keeper signed. Signed on contract and not on loan. That should be priority.4 July 2017 at 11:23 pm #160230By all means sign him, but as back up if Grigg or Bogle are injured, not to replace either.
