The EFL are dragging their feet over the punishment for Bolton not fulfilling fixtures last season. I,m starting to think they are going to get away with it.
5 July 2019 at 1:47 pm #179443Probably. Although at the minute they have a 7 man squad so they might not even kick off the new season.
5 July 2019 at 4:09 pm #179449Setting a very dangerous precedent if they do get away with it
5 July 2019 at 11:34 pm #179459Another 12 points deduction would still be leniant on the rule bending cheating Horwich gets.
6 July 2019 at 12:50 pm #179471Another 12 points deduction would still be leniant on the rule bending cheating Horwich gets.Again don they are leaving it late if points are to be deducted the season starts soon.
6 July 2019 at 1:29 pm #179473They daren’t let it go, the point about setting precedents is spot on.
Failing to fulfil a fixture is a heinous crime. Remember, a few weeks from the end of the season and the with the prospect of their results being expunged from the record we were all flapping, given the fact that we would drop into the relegation spots as we had taken most points off them from the teams in trouble. Also it could have affected the promotion issues in another scenario.
Clubs will end up in administration again unfortunately and if it’s financially expedient to bale out of a couple of fixtures, they might as well do so as there will be little chance of further punishment if they could refer to the fact that Bolton got a free pass.
Wigan Borough collapsed in the 30’s leaving fixtures outstanding and it was often quoted that this ‘history’ was a key factor in Latics repeated failures to get a Football League spot in years when they certainly ought to have been hot favourites……in the end it took the best part of 50 years for a Wigan club to get back in to the League.
They can hardly fine them as they have no cash…. and points deduction or a further relegation are the only appropriate punishments.
All that said around 25/30 years ago…..Spurs and Swindon were found guilty of the same offence (illegal payments was it?) …Swindon were relegated as punishment, Spurs got an affordable (for them) fine ……so the worrying thing is the Football League have ‘form’ for extreme bias against the smaller clubs !

8 July 2019 at 11:00 am #179502I’d say a minimum 20 point deduction, and a ban from going up (the next club below moves up).
Or
A straight forward relegation so no matter were they finish their down. They should have been kicked out the League it’s as simple as that. To not complete your fixtures is as bad as it gets
8 July 2019 at 1:40 pm #179505It was the fact that they gave the result as a 1-0 Brentford win as opposed to the usual 3-0.
Let’s say that at the end of the season we are in a relegation scrap and are set to survive by 2 goals on GD with our last match being against a side at the top who realistically will put 4 or 5 past us and send us down.
What stops us finding some reason not to play the game, losing 1-0 by default and staying up?
8 July 2019 at 2:06 pm #179506The FA’s rules are as clear as mud, it’s rules for one and rules for another as far as I can read with lots of “guidance” information.
As said before it’s all about setting a president. If little or no firm action is taken against Bolton then the next time this happens that club can simply point to Bolton and again, get off lightly.
Other clubs who have previously been heavily penalised for lesser need to bark up and ask why12 July 2019 at 12:18 pm #179553Its all getting swept under the rug….
Maybe we all need to keep on at the League to make sure action is taken? Another 9 points on top of the 12 will be about right.
I reckon they havent revealed it, to let their takeover go through. And I also think Bolton know this and are stalling on the takeover to get the season round, to try and get away with it.
They shouldn’t be allowed to. No way.
