Really got to have a change of football philosophy from SM if we going to avoid a mauling. Watched the highlights of their hammering by the seaside and what was evident was the tempo at which both teams played at particularly Blackpool. The ball was moved swiftly from back to midfield on to the flanks then 1st time into the box. Really hit home to me how pedestrian we are and easy to defend against and it’s not a recent trait we’ve been that way virtually all season. Bolton won’t miss Santos as I personally don’t rate him and will have their arses stinging after Saturday. 8 or 9 years since they beat us will come to a crashing end if we don’t improve massively on that pathetic performance on Friday. The 4 nil early season seems years ago.
25 February 2024 at 8:47 am #202463I’m genuinely worried about Tuesday. We were awful on Friday night, no movement and playing at a snails pace. Play like that on Tuesday and we could be 3 down at half time.
Theyll have their arses kicked after the Blackpool hammering, I can see them getting one over us in this one. For once, we haven’t got Lang to go at them, and I’m not sure who we have who can really threaten them that much.
If the players are as bad as the Cheltenham game in this, and so lacklustre, it’ll be a disgrace.25 February 2024 at 9:17 am #202465Our players have to lift their game if were to compete with them but my main worry is, we don’t have a leader and we lack that aggression, someone to take the bull by the horns.I just hope to God Maloney doesn’t start McManaman because he’s a red card in the making.
Bolton have won 4, drawn 3, lost 3 in their last 10 games. But in their last 5 games Bolton are conceding on average 2 goals per game.
Santos will be missing which will be a big bonus for us and Charles still out is good for us.
Tuesdays going to be a toughy to call, it’s like a cup game were all current form is thrown out the window and I don’t think there’ll be another 4-0 on the cards simply because there’s not a goal in us.
I know one thing, Bolton will be stinging like f*ck from their Blackpool so expect a backlash of some sort.
It’s a bonus that we’ve had an extra day to rest and I hope SM’s got them fired up
Did anyone notice the pitch at the end of the 10bob fat fcuk world club win ?.It looked like Springfield park mid Jan fcukin mud bath not a blade of grass insight after 2 games in 2 days so tippy tappy football won’t work well
25 February 2024 at 10:46 am #202468The home performances have been shocking lately and I’m struggling to see this bunch beating Bolton this Tuesday.
The first half against Cheltenham was one of the flattest and worst performances I have seen from ANY Latics team for many many years , so bad I almost left at half time.
Not sure why they play so badly at home and without effort or intensity.
Tuesday would have been the Sort of game for Lang and Wyke both experienced players but both no longer here and they always played really well against Bolton.
A draw I’d the very best hope for me.26 February 2024 at 2:58 pm #202479I hope the likes of Maloney and McManaman tell the players what it’s like and fire them up. Weres McClean when you need him. No doubt he’ll tweet something
27 February 2024 at 11:04 pm #202492That’s made my season, I don’t give a fcuk what happens from now till the end watching those sad faces leave the ground makes up for all those poor performances of late.
A superb hard fought win and I can’t fault one player they all gave 100% and they’ll sleep tonight.
On the downside the afters on the pitch at the end. I heard a rumour that someone from the Bolton side or staff spat at a Latics player. I hope this is nothing more than a rumour and the Godo video dancing ears cupped to the Bolton end at the end is immense.
Thank you Latics I can sleep well tonight
27 February 2024 at 11:16 pm #202493Fabulous, Alamo esq performance. SM asked them to leave everything out there and to a man they did !!…His subs turned the game. Macmanaman was immense….they couldn’t handle him….his desire, passion must transfer to the youngsters……absolutely earned another contract. A brilliant fighting result……agree wonderful feeling to see their dejected kippers…..Outstanding result !!
28 February 2024 at 7:31 am #202497One of the great nights that last night and one bit of real quality decided the game.
Relegation fears were probably buried for good last night and maybe time for Maloney to be a bit more adventurous particularly against poorer teams from now on.28 February 2024 at 7:48 am #202500Passion, grit and determination. Brilliant to watch as a Latics fan. The Bolton meltdown at the end was hilarious
28 February 2024 at 8:03 am #202501A fantastic result and a hard fought performance agree but going forward ? we have to improve because we basically had nothing going forward (bar 5 mad mins) all night.
As for the goal? brilliantly taken by Humphrys but how good is that Chambers ?, the vision and killer ball for the goal. Don’t you just wish he was a Wigan player permanently.
I’ve a feeling some other club will strike gold if he’s loaned out again next season because I’m sure he’ll go on to bigger and better things in the long run.
Just on the subject of the empty seats in the South Stand,
We could have closed that Stand and comfortably housed them all in the East and West which is sad really considering who we played.
Surely filling seats with cheaper deals is far far better than dear empty seats. The club must look into last minute tickets or family deals for that stand to entice fans back.
How’d they’d price it?, I’m not sure but that’s for those marketing guru’s to suss out and get right but that stand needs filling.
28 February 2024 at 8:23 am #202502I think the thought of them Bolton Knuckle Heads puts people who take young families off. Lots of blue lights and sprinting riot cops outside afterwards. The usual Bolton reaction, home & away !
28 February 2024 at 12:38 pm #202506I saw the altercation at the bridge and could see fists flying about and agree not the sort of thing that will fill our ground with families and kids and the south stand looked very spartan last night.
I thought the policing was abysmal last night compared to recent encounters with Bolton though , not sure of the sense of allowing their supporters to converge at the bridge after the game with obvious results. -
