“to be honest I just wish Whelan would stop disappointing the fans”….oh aye, I’m gutted I’ll be going to Old Trafford, Anfield, Emirates etc next season, just think without Whelan I’d have been lucky to be going to any of the 91 other league grounds in this country.

Fans had the excuse of ignorance when it came to demanding big transfers fees, but following this season, and the revalations at Portsmouth, Hull etc., I would think fans have a different outlook these days.
Whatsmore, it’s been the smaller, less hyped transfers that have proved the most successful for Latics.
Gohouri is a great free transfer, hopefully James McArthur will sign for around £1.5m, still leaving us with a significant transfer budget to work with.

Since then the club has done a shirt sponsorship deal with 188Bet, stadium ownership has been handed to Latics, and we learned Portsmouth racked up £138m worth of debt, despite Premiership income and an FA Cup victory.
You don’t need to like Whelan, just hope he does a decent job for the future of the club.
