Now I’m not one for ranting or over the top reactions but I’m bored shitless with this modern day possession football. Must be turning into that grumpy old man I vowed never to be.
So am I wrong?
Pass, pass, pass, but absolutely no sign of any end product. Sat in my seat today and cant remember my ass leaving it, never for a minute did I think we’d score.
No doubt Caldwell will claim we had controlled the game but for what I ask?
Swapping Grigg for Le Fondre at 0-0 was not exactly a great plan but not stopping and changing his mind when they scored was clueless at best, then to throw Davies on as obviously we needed a second striker wasted the obvious need for Gomez.
Nick Powell should never have been allowed to return to the club and every passing minute that he disgraces the shirt completely confirms that belief for me.
Should we sack Caldwell, still not sure but you cant keep doing the same thing over and over and keep failing before the need to change will happen.
Rant over !!
23 October 2016 at 5:29 am #151673Am in agreement when I saw we had 2 defensive midfielders could,nt believe that the player needed to make the killer pass didn’t start,i cannot understand why power is on before gomez, felt sorry for grigg given little or no support which was compounded when instead of being given support from davies he was swapped for le fondre, first time around Powell impressed when he first came here before he left, felt he became a show pony, not convinced by him.
23 October 2016 at 12:16 pm #151675We don’t have enough players making runs off the ball and that leads to too much sidweays crap.
23 October 2016 at 12:33 pm #1516771) To be fair lowey, possession style of football is way better than the kick long & hope for the best style of football. Possession football when played right can be very good to watch & the end product can be brilliant.
2) Yesterday, however few chances we created, (& sometimes maybe give credit to the opposition for that) we are simply not taking those chances. Whichever style, formation or tactics a team sets out to play, football is about scoring one more goal than the opposition – which as i say we are not doing. Whether that is down to woeful shooting, an excellent save by the keeper, a shot just wide or hits the woodwork, the chances we are making are currently not being executed.
3) IMO we dominated that game up until they scored. That one goal simply knocked the stuffing out of us. I could see that & i am sure so could others.
4) Nick powell has been a disgrace (again IMO) since he returned to our club & i saw it as a blessing when he went off. Young byrne was brilliant when he came on. But if i had to name just one player who summed up the jonny big bollox in all of my 38 years watching latics, he would be it.
5) Following their goal, caldwell should have quickly changed his mind & subbed either power or perkins & put lefondre on with grigg (who looked p155ed at being subbed). I agree, bringing davies on – & no disrespect to him, meant there was no place for a game changer ie, gomez. I agree, that, he did get wrong.
6) Should we sack him. One word answer NO! IMO things just are not going right for us at the moment. We are playing ok, but as i said earlier, we need to start scoring. He has sorted us out defensively, but we now need to master the art of scoring goals & i do believe we will be alright once we have mastered that. I for one prefer caldwell’s style of football to that of bobby’s. Some might argue that it is entirely the same. Yes it is to a degree, but caldwell’s style is played at a quicker tempo. Bobby’s style bored me to tears.
& now, i await the backlash from the usual suspects ;)
23 October 2016 at 9:09 pm #151693Runcorn agree with most of what you say.
1) Totally agree possession football all day long over the hoof it but as you say its got to be played right, we simply just keep it and show no end product whatsoever. 1 injury time scrambled goal in 360 minutes is proof of that.
2) No team in the history of football has converted all of there chances but we create so few (2 good ones at best recently) means were pretty unlikely to register.
3) This is the bit I struggle with when Caldwell claims we dominate. I see dominate as creating all the chances and there keeper making plenty of saves, not having possession of the football and creating nothing!
4) Anyone out there actually believe in this show pony. Yesterday I don’t think he completed a single pass and his injury was almost a convenient excuse for him to say f$$ck it I’m off.
5) Yep !!
6) Probably still with you at the moment
7) No backlash just yet !!
23 October 2016 at 10:09 pm #151695Lowey, totally agree with all of that!
Especially the bit about Powell i said more or less the same when he went down the tunnel.
Fuck the EFL

If I am considered a usual suspect then so be it but I have said give him 3 maybe 4 more games to turn things around, and if things don’t improve then get rid because we will just end up in the same situation as last time we plied our trade in this division!

Yes, Derby home game for me is the key moment.
For me he’s safe till then, but if we’re still in the bottom 3 after that game the knives will be out…
24 October 2016 at 12:45 am #151704Next two games for me if he doesn’t get the right results he’ll be gone after the reading game that gives the chairman time to get his man with the international break being after the reading game
