not one of our better signings was he?
26 March 2011 at 8:30 pm #62450When your clubs record signing turns out to be a flop it doesn’t look too good does it !!
26 March 2011 at 11:04 pm #62451Football history is littered with big money signings that didn’t work out but hey, why not make out it only happens at Wigan?
27 March 2011 at 4:26 pm #62492For every flop Whelan’s been involved in, he has produced 3 players who have gone on to make him millions.
Let’s focus on the positives that have helped keep our club afloat, whilst still slogging it out in the top flight eh boys.PS Who’s to say Mr Bosselli won’t come back and do the business next season. :shhh: :liar:
Just check a certain Mr Drogba’s record when he first signed for Chelsea. Half of you lot would have had him hanging from the cenotaph at Aspull at the end of his first campaign.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!27 March 2011 at 5:52 pm #62496Boselli is supposedly a poacher, he depends on players to make chances for him. His hold up play etc isn’t great so asking him to play up front on his own is almost like telling him to play a position he’s not familiar with. He needs a partner, even then he might not be physically adept for the Prem but who knows?

27 March 2011 at 8:12 pm #62501I remember well him “poaching” a header wide from 3 yards with nobody any near him.
27 March 2011 at 9:19 pm #62504Yeah to be fair that wasn’t a highlight of his, but for a player that’s low on confidence, these things can happen.
Not that I’m condoning a miss from 3 yards, professionals that train daily and earn thousands of squid a week should have the skill to score from that distance but even the best cock up now and again.
27 March 2011 at 9:25 pm #62505Boselli is a flop, why? because hes not scoreing goals, that must make the other kermits we have up front flops aswell unless i am missing something!
28 March 2011 at 11:25 am #62520Waiting for the its like a new signing comment from Bob !
28 March 2011 at 12:05 pm #62521Football history is littered with big money signings that didn’t work out but hey, why not make out it only happens at Wigan?Take your point Griff, but I think what makes this particular signing stand out from any other flop I’ve seen in my time at Latics or most flops I can remember down the years by other managers, is that in this particular instance our Director of Football is alleged to have advised Whelan against signing him due to a) not thinking he was suitable for playing up front on his todd & b) not believing he was physcially suited to the British top flight game
Our manager has then kicked off & to all intents & purposes forced the director of football from the club over the issue, persuaded the chairman that said director of football didn’t know what he was on about & that he did and got the afore mentioned chairman to loosen the club’s very tight purse strings & break the club’s transfer record to bring him in.From the outside looking in it looks very much like a manager staking his reputation & footballing judgement on the success of a player and so in that respect filmoss is right that his apparent failure doesn’t look very good for the manager

I’m not sure how much of it is fact and how much is folklore
28 March 2011 at 3:20 pm #62523Then be unsure no more Griff coz some bloke down the pub told me that it was true
end of debate
28 March 2011 at 3:44 pm #62524That’s good enough for me, Tyldesley
