Latics get pre-season off to a flyer with 3-2 win over Swedish outfit
New signing Mauro Boselli was on the mark twice in Latics’ first friendly of the pre-season schedule, with Charles N’Zogbia dding a third in a 3-2 win over Swedish side Ostersunds.
Finding the back of the net either side of half-time Boselli gave an early indication of his goal-scoring ability in the friendly encounter that marks the end of an intense training week in Sweden.
N’Zogbia’s finish proved to be the winner with the Swedes coming back from 3-0 down to score twice and provide a nervy finish, but Latics’ strong performance resulted in a satisfactory start to their pre-season fixtures.
The team prepare to travel home today after a productive week and will getr themselves ready for the next game away to Oldham Athletic on Tuesday night where they’ll be sporting the new 2010/11 home kit for the first time.
Boselli gonna be another Zaki?…Good pre-season and shite after christmas?

Keep the tissues and knack mags at bay until after these pre-season games, young man; they are meaningless
18 July 2010 at 3:10 pm #40273Yeah but Griff,in all fairness to the lad it does show that he knows where the back of the net is ! How would we be feeling if after all the friendlies had been played and we had scored say one from Caldwell or an own goal ! There would be some doom and gloom on here for a change !! ;)
18 July 2010 at 4:22 pm #40279all about creating a momentum going into the new season hopefully we can do that!
not too happy about conceding 2 at 3-0 up…..

That said, it is a good sign that the new striker appears to be able to score goals

18 July 2010 at 8:45 pm #40293Didn’t a certain Mr Scotland score a few in pre season last year??
Let’s just see how he gets on in the premiership. Trust me if he hasn’t scored by 30mins into his debut people on here will be calling him rotten anyway :D :D
19 July 2010 at 3:34 pm #40350In one of my bored moments during a lunch break last week I e-mailed the BBC South American football correspondent Tim Vickery just to see how he thought Boselli would do for us this season. Here is his reply:
“I’ll be happy to be proved wrong but I’ll be surprised if he’s a success. He’s an out-and-out goalscorer – he doesn’t offer anything outside the penalty area. I suppose you might compare him to Miroslav Klose in a way – not particularly big, strong or skilful but he has that penalty area nose.
With Estudiantes, Boselli was playing in front of the best midfield in South America. So there were lots of chances, he put a few away and his confidence soared. He is now in a much stronger league but not one of the strongest teams. He might struggle – and if he’s not scoring, he doesn’t do much else.”
19 July 2010 at 4:58 pm #40356Just our type of player then !!!!
I noticed we only played 35 mins each way in the friendly game, maybe thats why we drop away at the end of games !
19 July 2010 at 5:26 pm #40357Should have emailed me, my reply would have been
‘He can’t be any worse than jason scotland.’

I was really excited when I found out we had signed him, and quotes like that take it all away again!
19 July 2010 at 9:56 pm #40370What are we doing signing someone who only scores goals, is an out and out goalscorer and has been compared to one of the world cup’s record goalscorers
