This might have gone under the radar but Emerson Boyce has spoken this week about his recent experience with depression. It strikes me of being typical of the man to speak with great humility to reach and help others who might have similar issues and problems. I’m glad to see he’s working in football again and who knows where it will take him, but hopefully somewhere good, maybe with Latics.
Emerson is a man who stands tall, a hero to us us all. An icon, an inspiration, for the Latics generation.
Good luck Boycey!
29 March 2019 at 1:33 am #177700very very well said; top marks Edwards. Depression is not a condition that should be ignored, and its great when people who have respect from many are able to talk about it. The consequences of depression can be catastrophic, and should be avoided! Well done Edwards and even more well done to BOYCEEEEEE.
29 March 2019 at 3:26 pm #177709An awful lot of footballers go under the radar who suffer from depression once their careers come to an end. It’s mainly due to having a full structured heavy schedule in their lives then suddenly , pop the plugs pulled on them and some are just not ready for the instant change.
I reckon the FA should put just as much effort and funding into tackling footballers (past and present) who suffer from depression and addiction as they do into tackling racism within the game.29 March 2019 at 5:30 pm #177710Full credit to boycey in coming out with it straight away. So many people who experience depression suffer in silence & the end result is usually tragic. Things are getting better, but much more is still needed.
29 March 2019 at 10:05 pm #177717There is probably enough money sloshing around in football to make things better, but to be fair its a relatively new conversation. Its good to have Emerson’s, other players, and, our voices and ears to the conversations.
30 March 2019 at 12:07 am #177722Just heard today on the radio how prescriptions of anti-depressents have rocketed in recent years.
Presumably must be linked with the recent awareness campaigns re Mental Health problems.
Just demonstrates how effective massive public awareness campaigns can be.
Not sure dishing out of medication is the answer but well done Boycey and the many other people who have brought these problems to light. -
