Brian Reade today says that “Dave Whelan attempting suicide in his Bahamas hammock because no one’s listening to him any more” is one of his good things to look forward to this season.

This is in such bad taste after Duncan Sharpe’s death. But why would he say something like this? It’s the Premiership round up and we are not even there any more.

This is also the paper that had two pages on Dave going on about Rooney last weekend. A two-faced and pathetic tabloid.

Can somebody organise a boycott of this Latic’s loathing rag?

I don’t think the Mirror is any different to other rags in its reporting of all things Latics. More specifically, Brian Reade has a history of ridiculing Whelan and the things he says. In most cases it’s because he’s asked for it.

Eh? You appear to have missed my point, but it’s not difficult to see which side you are on.

The majority of Prem clubs would have him as chairman instead of their Yanks and Sheikhs. He has thrown money at the club because he loves it.

Ninety percent of what Dave says is in support of Wigan Athletic. Shame you can’t show the same support, Sammy

I do hope that the club complain to this newspaper and demand a apology from the reporter Reade

I am on nobody’s side here. Whelan likes the media limelight and uses that to put his opinions out in the public domain. Just because he’s the chairman of Wigan Athletic, the team that you and I have chosen to support, doesn’t mean his comments and utterings are exempt from criticism.

And some of what he has said in the past has been embarrassing and worthy of ridicule. Whether that justifies the suicide comment by Reade is of course up for debate and may well be in bad taste, but since when have journalists ever been guided by any kind of moral code.

The standard of football reporting in the press is, for the most part, abysmal.

Not at all like the posts we get here!
