S_J – I think the kids can become a member and get reduced prices, but I think this process takes some time – could be wrong on this though.

I reckon £30ish would be a fair price, to ST holders and to attract new fans.

Did you not think of takign your kids to the Sunderland game at £7.50 a go? Or is it easier to pick on a game where you know the prices havent been reduced and gives you the excuse to moan.?

Its not me I’m talking about. I’ve got a ST. I’m just posing the question, if you were someone, say on average wage with two kids, thinking about coming along and starting to follow your local team and were quoted £50, would you? I don’t think I would. And neither did he.

The point I am making is that the club do make offers for fans, and good ones at that. On some occasions they decide to charge full prices to keep the revenuw coming in, I guess. I bet someone has done the maths, 4k of £20 tickets for away fans, would probably outweigh the extra revenue from the increased latics fan base for the game at £10 a ticket.

I can see where your coming from but I do think the prices are reasonable compared with what other clubs charge. Football pricing has moved on and we wont go back to th £10 a game we used to get.

Or maybe have an adult equivalent of Juniior Stripes, for those that can’t go to every game for what ever reason, where a £20 membership guarantees them tickets for a reduced rate. Obviously this would have to be thought out as it could and would be abused, but its another idea on the table.

Does anybody remember the student/unemployed gate that they trialed for a season at Springfield Park which must have been some point between 1995 & 1998?? The queue for this turnstile used to snake on to First Avenue at times whilst all the others had tumbleweed blowing through them
Me thinks that idea was abused somewhat!!!!!

Back on to subject the Junior Stripes idea is extremely good value for money but surely the people on the ticket office should push be told to push it more
If we take the story of the original poster at face value would he have been more tempted to fork out £50 (£20 adult, £5 Kid x2, £10 junior stripes x2) if he’d been told that membership would have entitled him to bring his kids to any further games for the same £5 price? I think they might have been & his kids may have been hooked for life.
If people who phone up just get told “1 adult & 2 kids? That’d be £50 mate” its a fair old wedge of money to expect a casual fan to fork out (even if it is extremely good value when compared to other permier league sides) & I can understand people just saying “I’ll leave it then”

My message to the original poster would be to tell his mate about Junior Stripes & the extra value that brings. If he still thinks its too pricey tell him to begger off & stop taking the pish

£20 for any Premier League game is decent value. It’s the kids prices that are too expensive. £15 isn’t going to appeal to any youngsters in Wigan. The club did well with their ST offers, but they just seemed to stop there. They need to do some more deals on inidividual games such as adult & kid ticket for £25 or 3 tickets for £30 for example.

If going to more than one game was the plan, Junior Stripes is a very good option. It actually costs £10 per season…

Wasn’t sure what the cost was now, it’s a few years since the kids were JJ’s members (as it was then). Still great value though when used over the season.

And another thing, and again it’s just an opinion but I’ll always see Latics (certainly for the foreseeable future at any rate) as a third tier battler. To be in the position we are in at the moment is beltin’ but as a club, even with Whelan, we are punching quite a way above our weight. It’s a potential giant killing every week and the fact that we’ve done it now for so long (and I include the Second Division Title and Championship seasons in that) should blow any embarrasment we have out of the water.

It’s only the others (rival fans, press, etc) that make us feel embarrased about our crowds anyway. From their perspective it’s the old “they shouldn’t be there with crowds like that” but fact is, we are here. And we’re here because we’ve got a well run club that’s rode it’s luck a bit and found a formula to be relatively successful. Simple. Maybe all these other so called big clubs that should be replacing us up here could take a leaf out of our book, eh? But they can’t be doing that though can they? They’re so much bigger than us so they must know better, surely. If it didn’t bother them, it wouldn’t bother us but we could turn that around and say it doesn’t bother us so it shouldn’t bother you.

And no, I’m not easily pleased or easily accept things. If we were at the bottom of League One, playing utter tripe and getting hammered week in, week out, then I would certainly be considering joining the “Manager Out” club. But for now along with all the others that turn up and support the club, I’ll continue to enjoy our giant killing act’s.

Oh, and let the odd Notts County enjoy theirs against us every now and then. Ha Ha!!

They should give kids tickets away for free and build the next generation of supporters, and potentially fill the stadium. It would be interesting to see the stats on the offers taken up.

If you buy two, can you have two free?

The web site is suitably vague about it. You can get a free ticket when buying tickets for the game. Although the headline says Buy one get one free.

Ive been saying this for years! Give away South Stand tickets to Under 10s. Fill that stand up week in week out.
Im getting sick of my little lad bringing home free thugby tickets, one of these days hes going to ask me to take him!

Send them back to school with him in an envelope with a note telling them to shove’em up their arrrse.

I got invited to an all expenses paid corporate hospitality day once.
Needless to say I declined the kind offer and chose to pick off my bum nougats instead.

That’s an excellent point and one that I had overlooked. I don’t think there will be 4k of Wolves but even if there is only 2k then that is probably a lot more than the additional casual Wigan fans we could expect.

Either way, the additional revenue for this – maybe £40k? – will not change the club’s life but equally, if the club were to turn down turned £40k of revenue anywhere they would be slated up hill and down dale.

I also think the Swansea ST offer of BOGOF is a fantastic idea. Especially when there are 4 of us that sit together :)
