First of all, hats off to the 100 or so who made the long midweek journey I can promise we heard you loud and clear.
So the first thing I’ve noticed with Malhoney in charge is,

Closing down far far quicker when out of possession. Too often in the past we’ve been slow as fcuk going to meet the man on the ball giving the opposition too much time to make a decision were it’s going next.
In the past we have been content to let opposition players travel into our half unchallenged again allowing them to pick a pass but now were straight in their faces.

Through pressing we’ve conceded only 1 goal in 270 minutes of football, a clean sheet against 2 decent sides Blackburn were 6th and Bristol City unbeaten this year. I’m still in shock at Kolo Toure not addressing this especially when he was a defender.

The one problem we have now is scoring. We look very week in the last 3rd and I’ve no idea how we’ll sort this with the current squad.

We need to 100% start of by playing Pearce as this lets McClean overlap and we look far more dangerous down the left when their both on the pitch.

Roll on Saturday, Norwich will not be an easy task so a point again would be handy while 3 would be get p#ssed time.

This will go to the wire and my prediction is we will need to get at least a point against rotherham on the 8th of May to stay up,
      You heard it hear first

I think the remaining fixtures offer a good few opportunities for some points especially when some teams are coming into that spell were they realise the play offs are out of the question but have enough points to stay up.
A few weeks ago i said we have no chance however i am not so sure now after seeing the massive improvement seen we have had under Maloney and his coaching team. Its a remarkable turnaround and he looks and sounds like a born football manager and we may have unearthed a real nugget management wise.
He has addressed the intensity and effort and more importantly organisation , we even have seen Fletcher get a scruffy but important goal and who would have predicted that a few weeks back ?
Charlie Hughes looks like the find of the decade and it so heartening to see Latics producing talent of this calibre and its our future and worth embracing by the owners.
The lack of goals though for me remains the problem but he has no options really now the window is closed other than trying out a reserve or two or hoping Fletcher now gets into some kind of groove and starts banging them in.
A win tomorrow would be a huge step forward and the biggest of the season however a point wouldn’t be a disaster because its those games against the likes of Rotherham , PNE , Reading etc that will determine our fate.
