No no, every player comes here with a clean sheet. If they give their best that’s all we can ask.
Even though there’s no mention of it anywhere Darcy’s had an injury that’s kept him out for 4-5 weeks so I don’t think we’re gonna see him for a good few weeks till he comes up to speed.I see some big boys are looking at the young lad Millar the left wing back. I thought the few times he looked very very good for a 19 year old
31 January 2025 at 9:45 pm #204970I see Wrexham are signing everyone.
Signed Sam Smith from Reading and Jay Rodriguez from Burnley today.
I honestly can’t wait til they go tits up.
1 February 2025 at 7:04 am #204975Wiredu to Latics £600,000
This is going to be interesting, we’ll have 7-8 defenders all competing for 4 slots someone’s going or gonna be p*ssed off
1 February 2025 at 7:27 am #204976Why do they keep bringing in defenders? when it’s glaringly obvious a decent lower league striker is needed.
Defence is fine as far as it looks but no use have a skinflint defence without a potent striker and I cannot believe they haven’t scouted clubs to see if there is one available and I’m not talking about ‘promising ‘ I am talking about finished article.
An older striker maybe but one who can deliver the goals now Thelo has gone because I am struggling to see where they are going to come from.1 February 2025 at 10:49 am #204977I thought at one point we were very close to signing Jordan Rhodes from Blackpool as the “old experienced head” we crave ?
1 February 2025 at 6:23 pm #204984Failed the medical, apparently.
If we can spend 600k on a defender we don’t need, why can’t we go and spend that on a striker such as Jatta from Notts County?
The club and our manager really baffle me.
1 February 2025 at 6:25 pm #204985Wiredu, that is. Apparently failed the medical.
But if that’s right 600k for a defender we don’t need….
Get a bloody striker signed you incompetent bellends.
4 February 2025 at 6:27 am #205005Well the windows closed and now it’s down to Maloney to get it right. He can’t complain as he’s a squad of 33 yes 33 players to choose from when fit.
He has to make it happen and somehow find a way to replace Aasgaards goals,
and if he doesn’t ?Well we’ll go down faster than Linda Lovelace in her Christmas Special
4 February 2025 at 8:16 am #205006What another underwhelming window. No striker……can’t or won’t sign one, f###### if I know why but it’s stupidity at its best. Let’s get this right once and for all …Taylor for all his endeavour ISN’T a goalscorer…..so that leaves us 1….and the jury’s out on him. Joint lowest scorers in the league..Aasgaards goals gone…another 2 points dropped Saturday….enough chances to have won comfortably…..so we can all see the glaring problem…….that is apart from our wing obsessed manager and obviously the recruitment buffoons. Thomas injured Saturday……no problem rapidly replacing him Monday………Rest of season policy????….Keep it tight….try nick a goal then hang on for dear life whilst boring the bollocks of us……if we go behind?…we are screwed. Absolute tosh that for whatever reason in 2 windows we can’t recruit 1 experienced goalscorer……won’t improve in next window either….just keep topping up with wingers…and defenders that aren’t a necessity.
4 February 2025 at 9:12 am #205007We’re knackered in the summer when all these loans go back. Back to having no players again.
Another thing with loan players is, if we go down, they’ll just walk away not bothered. It’s a dangerous game Baloney and the club are playing.
We can’t keep on running the club like that year on year. Or we will end up in non league. Just keep signing misfits and never will he’s year upon year…it catches up with you.
And where’s the next big hopeful in the youth set up? I can’t see that we’ve got anybody coming through. Our actual squad has hardly any value to it, apart from Tickle and maybe Kerr. This current ‘model’ won’t work forever so at some point some money will have to be spent.
4 February 2025 at 9:32 am #205008It’s also obvious the owners know fuck all about football, do they attend games, are they bothered?
We have had a month to bring in a much needed goal scorer we brought in more wingers that don’t even suit the system Maloney favours so a waste of money, even late yesterday we brought in another winger, how come the hierarchy didn’t step in and put a stop to it and went ahead to let this happen?
Maloney should have been told weeks ago that there is money available for a goal scorer/striker and nothing else, stop wasting the funds available. End of!
Could you imagine Dave Whelan allowing the manager to overload the squad with defenders and wingers when everyone concerned with the club knows we needed a striker? No he wouldn’t because Whelan actually attended matches and knew his football, these men running the club are fuckin’ clueless!
Shambles from top to bottom.
Fuck the EFL
4 February 2025 at 9:56 am #205010As DW famously said, “Wigan Athletic is a very democratic club. I make the final decision”
4 February 2025 at 2:10 pm #205011I’ve no doubt that it was quite useful having an ex player as chairman. Dave Whelan played against some if the best players of his generation, such as Bobby Charlton and Duncan Edwards. He played against them in inter Army games during the National Service days. I think he even played alongside Edwards.
So Dave knew a player. Most of us who’ve been going years know who is a good player and who isn’t. We can see the limitations of our current squad, and how when they are all fit that a player such as Matt Smith isn’t used correctly. Plays too deep.Maybe it’s a point that we haven’t got that knowledge in the powers that be at the top of the club. Is it just a ‘project’ for them? Rather than a devotion.
Maybe we need a manager to be under more pressure from a more pushy and hands-on type of board.
7 February 2025 at 10:54 am #205024I agree with the striker thing but let’s have a reality check here,
Were Wigan Athletic languishing in the bottom half of L1 on one of the lowest budgets in the League.
We want a striker to get us out the mess but who doesn’t. Name me one club that isn’t after a 15-20 goal a season man ? I’ll tell you,
It’s every club in the league bar none.
Then, why would a 15-20 goal man choose us over say a Wrexham or a Birmingham etc etc etc ?
They wouldn’t simplesThe reason they’d go elsewhere is,
Were we are in the League,
Peanuts wages for a goal scorer
And the crowds are not the world’s best.
£600k will get you what? Stones went York for £400k so based on that note much.
The fact of the matter is, we are no longer attractive to players and goal scoring forwards command decent money hence Taylor and Goodwin.
You only have to pop 5 goals in 6 and everyone sits up saying
“He’s a good un why don’t we go in for him??”
Even average strikers command big money and up & coming players are worse in the hope they are the real deal.Weres Cze?…and before you start slating the lad he works dam hard on a match day. I think there’s potential in the lad but he’s had issues off field by all accounts. He reminds me of Lang and needs a run of games.
Our problem is, our goal scorers gone and we don’t have anything close to him to match his goals.
We do t have the money and we don’t appeal anymore so more the reason to start living our own in like Payne Millar Cze get the fookers in
Too young Maloney says ?
Bollocks I say Shaun
Beggars can’t be fookin choosers and some aren’t good enough -
