Aye. Let’s forget the number of assists Yanic had last season and the key goals scored. Let’s forget he’s our most dangerous player by a country mile. Blackburn were terrified of him whilst Birmingham doubled up on him at times. And for all the Pearce lovers I presume if it was common knowledge he was available why were only Third tier clubs in for him if he’s that good?

His pace is a danger if he is 1 on 1 but if sides double up he doesn’t have the ability to beat both men. The good thing is though that it leaves a gap for the likes of Gilbey and Jacobs to exploit which they did against Birmingham.
23 August 2016 at 6:05 pm #150185Only crap teams from crap clubs play 442 nowadays. Ancient managers who think its 1960.
23 August 2016 at 11:18 pm #150193No Super Stu, back in 1960 it was 2 3 5.
Wonder where Super Stu would have fit in to this 3 5 1, 5 3 1. Would he be the one or playing deep behind the one.24 August 2016 at 12:57 am #150194No Super Stu, back in 1960 it was 2 3 5.

Would he be the one or playing deep behind the one.To be fair to super stu donny, & if i remember, ray mathias played super stuart barlow on one wing along with andy liddell on the other & simon howarth as a lone striker. Whether that formation was a 4 5 1 or a 4 3 3 im not too sure. But stuart barlow did play in a similar formation.
What about yourself mr page. Would yourself, phil daley & mark hilditch have managed with such a formation(s)?

24 August 2016 at 3:23 am #150200It was El boring one who introduced us to the lone striker way of football and what a yawn his football was.
24 August 2016 at 3:32 am #150201On MoTD on Saturday Phil Neville was praising the 442 system and the managers who are starting to be brave enough to adopt it.
More clubs are having a go at it these days, if not for full games, certainley at some point throughout games.24 August 2016 at 1:09 pm #150202It was El boring one who introduced us to the lone striker way of football and what a yawn his football was.To be fair donny, it doesn’t matter whether we adopt 1, 2, 3 or more strikers during the game. Martinez style of football was slow & boring i agree. Caldwell on the other hand has adopted more or less the same tactics, formations etc; but at a much quicker pace.
24 August 2016 at 4:23 pm #150204He certainly did. It was around the time we drew 3-3 at home to Sheffield Utd last season things got better under Gary. Fingers crossed we don’t revert back to that slow tempo stuff. VB
