I’d be interested to see how many managers have been sacked after their team’s have been beaten by Latics during our rise through the divisions & stay in the top flight – I seem to remember quite a few (especially during our Championship days)
It seems like getting beat by Latics is the ultimate badge of shame!!!
I was sat right behind Simon Jordan in the box when he rang Steve Kember’s agent asking him to meet him downstairs. An hour later he was sacked, mind we had just beat them 5-0.
The word was that Sunderland had already decided to sack him over the weekend but held back the announcement because of Gary Speed’s death.
So how many Premier League managers have now been sacked immediately after playing us?
Paul Ince when we beat Blackburn 3-0 08/09
Iain Dowie after we beat Charlton 3-2 06/07
Avram Grant when we relegated West Ham
Could we count Neil Warnock after that survival sunday

…… and they went on to get promoted that season.

Totally incorrect, but why let facts get in the way of a good story.
a)Why should Steve Kembers agent have been at the JJB that day ?
b)Simon Jordan was sat in the directors box – is this a luxury afforded to editors of one of the clubs fanzines.
The truth of the matter is all that happened in Frankie & Benny’s witnessed by yours truly and another member of this board(gekko) plus a few others and is well documented.
Jordan came into Frankies with two side kicks and rang number of people saying “I am calling a press conference first thing Monday morning will you be there” he went on to say “I am making no comment until then” all this while stood at the bar in full view and hearing of all us astonished onlookers.
Jordan and his mates then went on to discuss replacements including one of his sidekicks mentioning Ian Dowie(who got the vacated role), they also discussed how to get home as they had travelled on the team coach.
This article was written on 3rd.November 2003 2 days after the game, quoting the Evening Standard, it seems that Kembers sacking had still not been announced.
This true, he was not too far in front of me, he was wearing a stupid back cap, dark sunglasses, long black crombie and had shoulder length hair, I remember it well, looked a right pr ick tbh.
Not sure who he was speaking to, but he seemed to be on the phone the whole fckin match.
Frankie & Benny’s
What did he order?
