Caldwell is taking alot of flack from the jocks and for me with Alcaraz hitting the ground running I wouldnt pick him over Scharner Alcaraz or Figz.
I know Scharner wants back to Hamburg at the end of the season but news from their side was they would be happy to release him.
Definatley worth a 1 year contract IMO.
Although I think the likely outcome is that we will be in for 1 or 2 centre backs in the summer with Scharner , Alcaraz and Figz all possibly heading out of Wigan :(
26 March 2013 at 6:20 pm #106271Depends very much which division we’re in. Golobart’s looked sound to me.
26 March 2013 at 6:20 pm #106272never say never
scharner might want to stay if we do stay up that is
stranger things have happened at sea26 March 2013 at 6:36 pm #106275I remember Paul Mariner
26 March 2013 at 6:51 pm #106278he has a brother is name is SUB ?
26 March 2013 at 7:03 pm #106283I think Scharner wants to return to Germany for family reasons. He’s certainly filling a gap while Ramis is out injured.
Next season we may be without Alcaraz and Figueroa. That would leave Ramis and Caldwell. There may be some young players coming through – Lopez and Golobart seem to be making progress.
26 March 2013 at 8:36 pm #106303I remember Paul MarinerWorst striker ever to come out of Chorley.
26 March 2013 at 8:41 pm #106304And there’s Kevin Prince Boateng

They may be happy to release him, but it was actually Scharner that said he only wants to come here on loan, help us survive, then go back to Hamburg. I believe it was because his family etc are happy there. So I cannot see him coming here/staying here after this season. Even if Hamburg are happy to release him if he is happy there he will just sign for another club in the same league surely?? Hope I am wrong though ;)
Also where is Alcaraz supposedly heading??
26 March 2013 at 11:08 pm #106324What about David Seaman and John “Jolly” Rodgers.
From Matlock to ManU

It depends a great deal over the next few weeks who we lose. Prem and Europe – suspect we’ll lose no one – Championship we’ll lose a few no doubt.
I’ve said it before – the next 5 weeks the most important in the club history.
27 March 2013 at 1:44 pm #106400Most group games in the Europa Cup are not a great attraction for players or fans either.
What player will sign up for three years because Wigan – or Swansea – have just qualified for one season in Europe?
And you need massive resources to succeed in the League and Europe too.
27 March 2013 at 1:54 pm #106404As I mentioned in an earlier thread, there is surely no way back for Caldwell now unless it involves playing in a lower division !
27 March 2013 at 2:00 pm #106406why do we keep letting contracts run down? hugo, diame and now alcaraz all good players who have gone on a free
