I think this young lad should be given a chance this season to prove himself in the first XI
10 September 2010 at 12:45 am #45886Quality idea that, stick an relatively unknown teenager well out of his depth up front on his own in the Premier league.
I’m all for bringing youngsters through, but only when they’re good enough, otherwise you’re just wasting your time.

He didn’t say just chuck him in. Maybe give him the last 10/20 when we are 2-0 up (If that situation ever happens) and see how he copes. But if Martinez was gunna put him up top on his own I cant see it doing much good as he isn’t the biggest lad and wihtout experience may struggle. But I am all for giving the lad the chance.
10 September 2010 at 12:58 am #45888I think we should only give him a chance when he’s ready, but he’s not good enough to prove himself in the Premier league.
If he was, at 19 (or similar) he would be in there like James McCarthy. Plus if he was good enough, he’d be worth alot of money.

Worringly, Jimmy, I agree with that, but I fear your bit in brackets is also true.

Am I reading this right!!
In all seriousness I too fear my part in the brackets may be true and can see our wins coming in games that are too close for us to give players opportunities.
No fear though, Martinez is still the right man and will get the goals coming! :)

What is your opinion Griff, think Martinez will turn out to be the man for the job? Think he will come good?
LMB would use me as bait.. As I am probably a far better fisherman ;)
10 September 2010 at 5:15 pm #45953What is your opinion Griff, think Martinez will turn out to be the man for the job? Think he will come good?I hope so, and I like the way he tries to play the game as I have said many times. I sometimes wish he would show a bit of flexibility though, and I still think there is an issue about players not having sufficient respect for him to pull out all the stops for him. And ultimately, if he can’t do that, he will fail.
10 September 2010 at 6:04 pm #45958iv watched him quite a few times now, hes a nippy type of striker not short of skills. also a fiesty little barsteward so he would go down well with the wigan fans.
10 September 2010 at 11:45 pm #46013Give him a game. He’s a forward anyway so late on in a game its worth playing him. He can’t do any worse than the other non scoring centre forwards we’ve had for the last few years anyway.
If he wants regular football he may have to become Callumo McManamano as we don’t do indigenous players.
