Heart hopes we can get off to a steady start unfortunately my head says defeat. Cambridge had a very good pre season and an Efl cup win. Very good at home, only lost twice there last season. Recruitment seems to have been good. I still think a lack of a goalscorer will bites us in the arse for all Caldwells rhetoric about goals coming from other positions, and his great optimistic concerning Perkins. Hope they prove me completely wrong but it’s a 2-1 defeat for me.
15 August 2026 at 11:02 pm #207442Well I made the long journey today in the hope we could get off to a good start and what tale of two Half’s.
Firstly, that has to be the weakest squad I’ve seen since we played the kids in admin.
The first half was a shambolic 0.5/10 mess, a mess beyond belief. Things improved after half time but let’s not forget we were 3 down and Cambridge decided to take the foot off the gas.
The subs made a significant improvement but the worrying signs are there for the the world to see.
I honestly don’t know we’re to start there was so much wrong it’s a joke.
Danson has taken this club to an all time low and without on field investment we will go down.
16 August 2026 at 9:51 am #207444I said to my lad a few weeks back that I fear us being exactly like Port Vale were last season, rooted in the bottom 2 or 3 all season.
Watched it on Sky+ and couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
Made a few observations….
I’ve no confidence in the keeper. Looks prone to spilling.
Chapman is NOT ready. Being rushed in because we are desperate. Needs a step back or a loan in League 2 or Non league. Plus, he isn’t fit and was blowing with hands on knees.
Max Power. Lauded as the talismadic leader returning. No. He’s come back because it’s an easier commute for him at this time of his career. Its as simple as that.
Sze. Is never a player at football league level. Its ridiculous we are still persevering with him. Should be at Southport.
Perkins. Its debatable as to what level he is. Not good enough for Orient, so why good enough for us? Cheap option, that’s why.
Murray. Is NOT a left wing back or a left side player, or any kind of wing back or full back. Stop this nonsense with him!
We still don’t know how to clear a ball. The goals were embarrassing. Really embarrassing.
Conclusion…
Worst Latics squad I can recall since 1993. We played in all blue that season as well, and were relegated. I am not including the admin team that was cobbled together. They’d probably beat us.
Tobias Brenan. I don’t get people crying about him going. Never seen anything from him that makes me think ‘player’. No better or worse that Adeeko.
Will Keane. Why are we not at his door or having flowers and chocolates delivered, begging him to come back? Free agent. Are we stupid? At this moment, I’d even consider Will Grigg coming back. To see if we can stoke his embers…I bloody well would! Because we were a turd fest up front until Higgins came on. HAS to start next week.
I hope Walsh comes, but it concerns me we are placing our hopes on a 17 year old, regardless of talent. Its pretty desperate. Likewise, Ive heard good things about Luke Harris. But once again looking to loan players as saviours. Because our own players are NOT good enough. Simple as that.
4 big North West clubs on our doorstep and yet we are getting players on loan from London clubs. Ive no problem with that, and I know we’ve just signed Burns. But surely there are players at the local clubs for loans? Braiden Graham at Everton, for one.
I think we could be in for a long season.
16 August 2026 at 10:32 am #207445Firstly Max Power was trying his best to feed and link but if those recieving aren’t good enough then …?
He was telling Weir to one touch pass but Weir insisted on his obligatory 6-8 touches before turning back.
Powers experience regardless is much needed and I think he’ll be good for us this season.
But for me, we played with a back 3 with Chapman way way out his depth and it was clearly our undoing.
Barrett and Chapman was an open door for Cambridge and they both made too many mistakes.
In that first half I didn’t see wing backs (if that’s how we supposedly set up) I saw 3. But the goals we conceded, OMFG defending at it’s worse shocking.
We had one experienced centre half in an aging Fox and playing 3 at the back didn’t help.
Costelloe works hard but there’s no end product in anything he does, there’s no goals in him and Perkins was asked to do the wrong job. Long balls in the air. He looks the type to be fed through, running into stuff not a hold up man on the half way line.
I’m not saying he’s the answer but you can clearly see that’s not his roll being a big lump target man.
But out the chaos, madness and an embarrassing 1st half display came a 2nd half with a glimpse of light
Millar injected urgency and pace down the left
Archie Harris looked busy lots of energy and got stuck in
But for me
Akeel Higgins ? we most definitely have a tricky attacking link up midfielder who could possibly get those midfield goals we need
But more importantly feed attackers say the likes Perkins with slip though balls. I would prefer to see Cze up top, Higgins behind.
He turned the big black guy for Cambridge a few times proving he can manoeuvre big defenders out the way with his quick feet.
He looked super tricky to pin down without been fouled.
The problem is quite clear and in your face
The squads too small
No depth for when players get knocks and suspensions
Lack of defenders with that experience needed. There’s a few weeks to go before the window closes and the super hard September fixtures arrive.
Danson has to give Caldwell money
I would break the bank get Taylor in no brainer. We need an experienced centre half in that’s a must because Fox cannot play all season.
Rumours about Carragher leaving are rubbish. He’s took a knock and the word is, he’s going nowhere for now.
If we don’t get 2-3 experienced players in were fooked that’s for sure.
Can I ask a question here,
What the fook is going on with Adam Moseley????
He scored how many for the youth and he’s hardly even been seen in the pre season squads
It’s not like he’s 16-17 he’s 21 for God sake isn’t it time he was given a chance ???
16 August 2026 at 11:41 am #207446We aren’t going to get Taylor, we need to forget about him and move on.
If they somehow, amazingly GIVE Caldwell 2 million pounds, he would be stupid/naive/a dickhead to blow it all on one player. When we need about 5 yet. I still think we need another midfielder. Definitely a striker. 4 players at about 500k each would probably get us near the play offs.
We should aspire to be like Lincoln were last season. Yesterday was like Port Vale were, last season.
Sze would never play again for me. Out of his depth. Costelloe makes Pat Gavin look like Ian Wright.
2 late goals were just polishing a turd.
16 August 2026 at 12:37 pm #207447It’s early days and Carragher was missing from the Line up. I’m also looking forward to seeing Burns playing as he must have something about him to have been on City’s books for 10 years.
Not too sure about the keeper though and Power is what Power always has been – a great pointer and a shit passer.
16 August 2026 at 5:36 pm #207449Finished with a back 3 of Fox (a left back), Mellish (a midfielder or left back) and Weir (midfielder) and it showed. Along with a keeper who I’m not convinced about we looked vulnerable throughout.
Murray is hopeless in his own half, can’t mark or defend for toffee. Not convinced with Barrett yet either but early days.
I thought Power moved the ball forward to the front 3 quite well, but that front 3 wasn’t good enough yesterday.
Still don’t feel like the season will be as bad as many think it will be. Burns and Carra in as natural centre backs will help. Higgins and Walsh (hopefully) will create more.
Personally I’d try and offload Fox and Mellish and free up some more decent wages. They aren’t good enough
16 August 2026 at 6:34 pm #207450I hope he starts Moseley on Tuesday and he bags a couple and makes it impossible to ignore him
I suspect he won’t though ☹️
16 August 2026 at 6:41 pm #207451Cambridge looked far more cohesive. I know we don’t take pre season games too seriously but they played 6. 4 wins ,2 draws including a draw against Norwich and beating Preston. They then beat Barnet in EFL Cup. Ours by comparison was a mess. Because of our financial rigor mortis Caldwell is still trying to cobble a team together a game into the season. Now all hopes are pinned on us getting a striker in…..not this crap about we need goals from other positions……..f###### obviously we do. If we rely on Costelloe, Saydee, Sze then we are well truly screwed. Its not just netting prowess it’s ability to worry defenders physically. Now looking to a 17 year old possibly to aid us and some guy from Bamber Bridge. Let’s stop bowing to Danson for being our saviour………as far as our playing staff and assets go he’s financially raped us…….Yes Carragher, Burn may shore up midfield but that’s about it……midfield creativity nil…..goalscorers nil………fingers crossed that the remaining window throws up a couple of surprises. Still be there Saturday……….
16 August 2026 at 11:44 pm #207452And Danson’s £1million+ coming in from the sale of Gelhardt.
So potential £750,000+ from Bettoni
£1.75million from Tickle
And now £1million from Gelhardt
Estimate £3.5million
That should cover the rugby’s debt for another 12 month.
Let’s not forget his wealth chaps
To understand his wealth and he won’t put back in money from the sale of players that cost fook all:-
1 million seconds = roughly 11.5 days
1 billion seconds = roughly 31.75 years
He’ll die a very rich man
