I have seen a few posts now about the restrictions at the DW…I thought they didn’t sell ES1 because we don’t fill the east stand to maximum and the stewards cant be arsed with the agro..
…Is there an actual Health and Safety issue here or is it the council who have asked for this…I am confused…especially when you see the segregation at the Manc derby comprised on a line of stewards…
3 May 2012 at 7:50 pm #86511The club took the decision to close of ES1 & to only allow ST holders into ES2 (I think that second was is true but I may be wrong) because of incidents of home & away fans chucking stuff at each other from these areas (and the areas in the north stand that are netted off too) .
Like you say United & City fans can be separated by a double line of coppers but Wigan Athletic have to put about 50ft between the 2 sets of supporters
3 May 2012 at 8:02 pm #86513Only one explanation. We are Wigan Athletic and that is it. We have had to put up with unexplainable rubbish like this throughout our history. It is plainly and simply a disgrace.
I remember the Pop side at Springy being limited to something like a thousand. Are Claude and I worked it out that a thousand fans could stand with their arms outstretched and not touch another fan.3 May 2012 at 8:27 pm #86514Only one explanation. I remember the Pop side at Springy being limited to something like a thousand. Are Claude and I worked it out that a thousand fans could stand with their arms outstretched and not touch another fan.The Pop side limitation was due to barriers not being safe I think. It wasn’t that was all the fans could fit in, the stand didn’t pass safety checks, and the club wouldn’t fix it.
3 May 2012 at 8:37 pm #86515its one way of making sure we dont get a complete sell out
but the rugby can3 May 2012 at 8:40 pm #86517we really do need to lose the paranoia. If we could fill the stadium (like we did in 05/06) then they would open up these areas and put in extra stewards.
As we don’t why have the extra hassle of policing this area when you don’t need to.
Think about it, as a business you try to keep your costs down, so why incurr more costs of stewards when there are other seats to fill. It ain’t th ecouncil, and it ain’t the premier league. It’s just sensible management.

but the rugby canThe rugby can’t either due to health and safety. The South and North stands are unreserved seating and so there must be 10% of the stands capacity left free, which is why when Wigan and St Helens games have sold out recently there has been a number of seats free in each end.
