after his 2 years are up, says he is retiring and wants to enjoy his old age, so he is quitting as manager after the Euros, should we make it.

That is giving the FA 2 years to source a replacement, who reckons they will be able to do it in that time?

A real question is: Who thinks they have enough time to sort out a suitable replacement?? .. As we don’t need to just appoint people such as the likes of McLaren as it is quick and simple…

I am hoping Capello changes his mind though and stays on for the next WC .. Especially after we win the euros!!

Capello is a good manager and does indeed have certain skills, however, I think even he was taken aback at the dummy spitting, egotistical, no-moral, overpaid primadonnas that are the premiership players he has at his disposal.

$ky say they are looking for an English manager – if that would sort them out…….but wasn’t Carlo Ancellotti tipping his hat into the ring a few days ago when during an interview he said that he would love to have the chance of managing the England Team.

Sniff of another in-house, Dame Trevor Brooking stitch up here methinks.

Doesn’t matter who becomes England manager first sign of a bad performance and the media will hang him in their usual style

Chris Hutchings would be an ideal candidate.

In the Mail this morning, Old Fat Head Steve Bruce is quoted as saying the England job is between him, Fat Sam, Old Roy and ‘appy ‘Arry. Nowt like blowing your own trumpet, is there?

Now as much as I quite liked Steve Bruce as a person, I can think of few worse to lead our national team. Fat Sam being one of them. Christ, why don’t we give it to Orange Brown and have done with it?

This had me thinking driving into Liverpool this morning. So, assuming it has to be an Englishman, and Chris Hutchins has made himself unavailable, who would you pick? Beckham, Pearce, one of the above four, Browny, Alan Curbishley, Venables?

My personal choice would be Sir Glenn Hoddle, but I can’t see the FA going for that.

If it has to be an englishman then I would choose Harry redknapp

However if some of the rumours about him away from football are to be believed then I think a) the FA may not wanna risk having a controversial character on their hands & b) the press will go to town on him as they did with Venables when he was in charge

Redknapp is clearly the most gifted.. And if we weren’t good enough he could help us cheat our way to it.

More gifted than Sir Glen??? I don’t think so

Maybe has more of the gift of the gab, granted.

And is better at breaking the rules etc? .. Who would you give it to genuinely Griff?

Genuinely, Hoddle. He should never have gone in the first place, IMO.Can’t see it happening though.

So, if not him, I’d probably give the old growler a go. That said, I’d like to see how Hodgson copes at Liverpool and maybe give him a go.

During the qualifying campaign & the world cup he was in charge, i really rated Hoddle & thought he would really be the man to bring success

However from the start of the qualifying campaign for the euro’s he had quite clearly lost the trust & respect of virtually all the players

Leaving aside his pushing of the faith healer to injured players & coming out with garbage that his biggest regret in the world cup was not taking her along – the way he handled telling players who weren’t selected for the world cup was poor & then the frankly bizarre decision to sign a deal with a publishing company to print his “World Cup Diary” & all the things he said in that signed his death warrant

From being someone who got the best from his players & seemed tactically astute his teams started to produce some poor performances & results

The FA I think, correctly, had decided he needed to go long before his comments on disability & re-incarnation gave them just the excuse they were looking for – although I think had he challenged it, the FA would have been on very dodgy grounds using someones religious beliefs as an excuse to dismiss them from their job.

However, he had shown enough very bad errors of judgement before then to convince me he wasn’t the man for the England job – he had his chance & he c0ck£d it up

If I am honest I do not rate hodgson that much. He had a decent season with Fulham but think it was a bit luck and a one season thing. Don’t even think he is good enough for Liverpool.

I read somewhere that Ancelotti fancies having a go, suppose he can (barely) speak better English than Capello.

If we’re keeping it English I’d go for Hoddle, can’t abide ole Satchel Face, but then again as James says, he could always help us to cheat our way to glory.

Quite bereft of options really aren’t we.
