27 June 2010 at 8:33 pm #38436You don’t need a superstar manager you need a motivater.
I realise many don’t like Beckham but Maradonna has proven all you need is a motivator for the national team.
It’s time to dictch Gerrard, Lampard and much of the rest of the squad.
The only player that has proved himself to be truely world class in Ashley Cole.
All is not lost as we have players like Joe Hart and Adam Johnson who weren’t even given a look in.

Gerrard and Lampard have never delivered on the international stage and Rooney is fast going down that route.

You’r right!.
28 June 2010 at 11:33 am #38490There were many problems with the England world cup campaign and probably Capello was too inexperienced for the world cup. The problem with the whole thing lies with the FA and their incompetance at all levels of football in the UK.
They were the ones who offered Capello the contract, they were the ones who hired him, they are the ones who insist the big names start for England so we can maximise sponsorship. They are more worried about losing the 2018 bid than squad unity.
I have said it before book look at the German league, salary caps, ticket prices are low, home grown players given the chance to play in first teams, U21 players promoted to the first team and given a chance. The German league dips for a couple of seasons and back in the champions league final, and again continue to progress in the world cup….
28 June 2010 at 5:05 pm #38532Is that the Ashley Cole who was suppose to be marking the 2 goal german b@5tard playing on the right yesterday? Yes, he was the best of a bad bunch the previous 3 games but playing against mediocre wingers. As soon as he comes up against 1 of germany’s biggest prospects he plays awful. Just as bad if not worse than the other 3 clowns in the back 4 yesterday. Nobody deserved a mention on the England team, James was given credit by the bbc pundits but he got beat twice at his near post, that is amateur goalkeeping, what you’re taught as a kid, never get beat at your near post. Barry and Lampard were passengers, yes Lampard scored and hit the bar but on the whole he has been awful. Rooney was by far our worst player over the 4 games and Gerrard didn’t take his chance to lead a team as captain. I have and always will believe in having a manager who is English. Redknapp with Becks and Pearce as assistants makes sense to me for the Euros. Capello still needs a translator when speaking to the English media ffs!

Gerrard started off there, but instinctively, spend most his time inside. When you’ve got a defender who makes forwards runs, you need wide players to help him out, or two out and out defensive midfielders and can drift across and offer some cover. England had neither yesterday and the Germans must have been rubbing their hands together when they saw the lineup.
Capello has fallen into the same trap as a lot of other recent England managers by selecting what he feels are the eleven best players, and then playing them out of position just to get them in the starting lineup.
As a prime example of how to do it correctly, look at Brazil. They have two of the best fullbacks in the world in Maicon and Alvez. Unfortunately, both are right backs, so Maicon starts, and Alvez is on the bench. If that were England’s problem, I’d good put money on Alvez being pushing into midfield, or starting at left back just to accommodate him in the team.
