The stewards taking down any flags and banners with blue on the fans not happy one bit..talks of restarting a new team and boycotting. feel sorry for them as much as i hate them.. hope we never have to face something like this
As much as i don’t like them, There is no need for all the crap they are having to deal with. When will these foreign owners learn that you can’t just come over here and mess with 100+ years of tradition, Allegiance and devotion. The hardcore football fans who pay to watch their Bluebirds will drive the owners out. The only slightly different Latics top i have is the blue, green and white on from about 96, All my others onwards are blue. If we decided to go red or any other colour i don’t think i would buy a replica. It is weird, like going against the grain. My culture is blue and that is the colour i will associate Wigan Athletic with forever. The Cardiff owners will be driven out. Fancy taking over the club and in one swift movement manage to alienate every fan involved with them.
Aye at the start of our history though Garswood, It wasn’t uncommon practice then for teams to change their strips dramatically. Football has evolved so much since the 50s. It was all a bit ‘anything goes’ kind of mentality before that.
I’m not at all condoning what happened at Cardiff – I think it’s disgraceful.
But Leeds adopted all white (to look like Real Madrid). Oldham had orange shirts and blue shorts within living memory. I remember in the 70s Luton changing to orange from their long-traditional white shirts and black shorts.
When I first saw Scunthorpe they wore all red instead of the claret and blue they’ve worn more recently. Before that they had white shirts and blue shorts.
I remember Villa ditching the iconic sleeves to have pinstripes – I remember Sheffield Wednesday having blue shirts and white sleeves instead of their long-time blue and white stripes.
Even Bolton’s traditional navy shorts have become white a few times recently.
It’s wrong what’s happened to Cardiff – no doubt. But not isolated.
I absolutely refuse to wear a red top because the Wigan Athletic I know and love have always played in blue.
Football blue, rugby red in Wigan end of. I remember getting in late to the Galpharm stadium when we won promotion to the first division and seeing our team play in red, OK Huddersfield play in blue, where did that fekin red strip come from? OK the moment was great and the strip thing got lost in the euphoria but WTF: :woohoo:
I hope that nobody buys that third strip and they lose a shed full of money producing them. What’s happened to Cardiff is totally wrong and I hope the fans vote with the money in their pockets and don’t invest in a home kit. goodpost

I don’t agree with whats happening at Cardiff but jr if they do boycott the new kit it’s the club suffers. Most clubs need all the money they can get and I’d rather wear red than have no club at all to support.
I was going to buy it but I decided to buy one of the new training shirts instead.
That red kit at Huuds was also a third kit and had been worn at Colchester earlier in the season.
From a personal POV I would love Latics to play in blue ar home and red away, whilst Wigan play in red at home and blue away. Should have been done back in 2000 when we moved into the Stadium together.
Oh, and I’m still struggling to see when we’ll need a 3rd shirt this year. West Brom or Newcastle at a push but I think we’d get away with wearing black at WBA and blue at Newcastle.
I personally don’t think it’s that big a deal if they get out of it financially what they are hoping. Their away kit is blue, so they are still playing just as many games in a blue kit as they always have. If you want to buy a replica shirt and don’t agree with the red, get the away shirt… simple! The stadium is also still blue. At the end of the day, our players could run around in pink and yellow polkadot, but it would still be the same Wigan Athletic. Our away kit changes colour and style all the time. Who cares? One of my favourite kits we’ve played in is the white on from around 2003. Don’t agree with stewards taking blue flags off supporters as this will cause a lot of issues for the management of the club. Do I believe that this is the case? No. It’s most likely chinese whispers.
