Cardiff City board to boycott Wigan match over alleged racism
The entire Cardiff City board will boycott Tuesday’s Championship game at Wigan in protest at what they allege to be a club owned and managed by racists.
It is understood the Cardiff owner Vincent Tan has instructed directors not to attend the match and they are said to support this position.
Wigan owner Dave Whelan was fined £50,000 for making racist comments about Jewish and Chinese people.
He also served a six-week ban from all football-related activity.
However, a Football Association disciplinary commission said it was “satisfied” Whelan “is not a racist” and did not intend to cause offence.
The 78-year-old’s comments were made as he defended the appointment of Malky Mackay as the new Latics manager in November.
Mackay is currently under investigation by the FA regarding allegations he sent “sexist, racist and homophobic” text messages during his time in charge of Cardiff.
The Scot admitted sending offensive messages and apologised, adding that he is not racist, sexist, homophobic or anti-Semitic.
Mackay was sacked by the Bluebirds in December 2013.
Wigan declined to comment.24 February 2015 at 2:56 pm #139851Ah well.

24 February 2015 at 8:36 pm #139858The is actually quite a classy response to this issue by the club.
Maybe we do have a PR machine behind the scenes.WIGAN Athletic have given away the seats reserved for members of the Cardiff City board to local volunteers.
Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan had earlier ordered his club’s directors to boycott tonight’s clash at the DW Stadium following his fall-out with Dave Whelan and former City manager and current Latics boss Malky Mackay.
However, Wigan Today understands that rather than leave 10 of the best seats in the house vacant, bosses at Wigan Athletic have instead chosen to give them away to hard-working volunteers from the club’s Community Trust and Wigan Youth Zone.
It’s believed that just two members from the Cardiff board were set to attend the Championship clash anyway.
Those who will now benefit will enjoy a meal in the chairman’s lounge before taking their seats in the director’s box for the game.
