A thought occured to me while watching the game thinking just how crap Henderson is.Liverpool paid 55 mill for him and Carroll and yet both their replacements made their mark as soon as they came on.Some on here castigate Mr Whelan for not spending millions well if you need proof that spending fortunes on quick-fix solutions doesnt guarantee you a return look no further than these 2.How does Henderson even get a game and does Carroll bring as much as say Heskey did?.55 mill is an incredible amount of money on players imho who are really average.Yes it would be nice to spend a little money on good players who can affect a result but if these 2 are the calibre at the top end of the market then what sort of player can we hope to buy? No wonder Mr Whelan keeps his hand in his pocket who can blame him?

To be honest you would expect a club of Liverpool’s stature to be secure in the league and at least get european football after all they have been at it consistantly for 40 odd years

Liverpool FC widely regarded as the 2nd biggest club in the world I think would expect to be safe from relegation in Europe and winning the odd trophy.

My point is that these ridiculous transfer fees for ordinary players are the main reason we cannot bring in the quality of player we need to prosper.A player with a £35 million pound price tag is not gonna earn peanuts for wages so when signing on fees are inflated so are wages. Its not Mr Whelans fault L,pool spent silly money on Henderson,Carroll,Adam while Chelsea spent £50 million on Torres etc etc but it is the likes of Wigan who dont have the resources of most who feel the knock on effect.Every player suddenly thinks he,s worth his weight in gold and we struggle to get them to come to our club.

Just on your reply Edinburgh, what did the 55 mill spent contribute to Liverpool winning the CC ? Once Bellamy came on for Henderson L,pool were a different team and didnt Kuyt score within minutes of replacing Carroll? I just think that paying obscene amounts of money on ordinary players just because your club can afford it is having a real bad affect on the lesser clubs.

Henderson is a young player, he as potential to be a top player, dont forget when manure paid a fortune for rio ferdinand and chelsea did likewise for lampard, eyebrows were raised at the massive fees, but they have proved there worth over many seasons :)

P@P@ Henderson is indeed a young player but had Ferdinand not established his self in a Leeds side at the time and same for Lampard only time will tell but on present form he his lacking in all departments

Liverpool are without doubt the media darlings why????????????
Mass hysteria when they ‘win’ a minor domestic trophy and Dalglish is surely the luckiest manager that ever drew breath.

Because the Press are scared of negative comments in the face of, as you say, mass hysteria response and campaigns to ban X from the shops and for no-one to buy it.
