Whatever issues we may have had with Charlie in the past and whatever happens at Stoke on Sunday, for me this man has well and truly achieved the rare status of “Latics cult hero”.

CORRECT.
Goals v arsenal and west ham + countless other man of the match performances surely give him that. I thought he was a bit off the boil up until before the blackpool match. how he has proven me wrong with 5 goals in 5 games :)

When he turns in another MOM performance at Stoke and we stay up I wish him all the best in his career and hope he gets the move his talent deserves. And we get a good price for him and not 6m which I have seen mentioned, he is worth 3 times that IMO.
16 May 2011 at 7:18 pm #65790He frustrates the life out of me at times but yesterday I found myself begging for him to be given the ball at every available opportunity.
The lad’s doing his level best to keep us up on his own.
A word for Boyce too – neve seen a player run himself into the ground as much he did yesterday. Excellent effort.

Agreed Griff. Think Boyce is an unsung hero.
Always done his best for us and a true Latics Mon.
16 May 2011 at 7:35 pm #65795I though Diame was outstanding yesterday !

Excellent effort.Glad someone else noticed Boycie’s outstanding contribution yesterday. He stretched so far for one ball, after eighty odd minutes, that he almost did the splits and struggled to, but eventually got back up  I winced for him, I thought he’d done himself good and proper.
16 May 2011 at 7:58 pm #65800Boycie really is an unsung hero and has been for some years.
For me, he has been one of our better centre backs when he has played in that position during our time in the Prem.
He has lost a little bit of his pace for me, but boy does he try his best and if we had 11 players with his drive and commitment we wouldn’t be where we are now in my opinion.
16 May 2011 at 8:10 pm #65805I thought Watson had what is now his usual outstanding game.
Hitting their post one minute and making a crucial interception in our box the next minute. In true Paul Rogers style he covered every blade of grass.
16 May 2011 at 8:51 pm #65811I thought Watson had what is now his usual outstanding game.If Scott Parker had made that pass for Sammon to score the equaliser Sky Sports would still be wetting themselves over it.
All round great game from Watson
16 May 2011 at 9:34 pm #65818At the end more or less all the players who’d started the match were dead on their feet, including West Ham’s. I though Watson was outstanding yesterday and has the ability to produce that killer pass. Diame ran him a close second. The star of the show was undoubtedly N’Zogbia. It’s inevitable he’ll go in the summer regardless of which division we’re in but I wonder if being a squad player in a more “fashionable” club would suit him. He’s temperamental and moody and if he’s not a regular starter I can see him spitting out his dummy. For some players it’s better to be a big fish in a small pond than the other way round. Money talks however so he’ll be off.
16 May 2011 at 9:57 pm #65823watsons best work seems to be done sniffing about in midfield, simple passes looking for gaps, then bang, killer pass! just wish he could take a decent set piece!
16 May 2011 at 11:30 pm #65848I’ve said earlier that Diame and Watson were awesome yesterday. I singled out Boyce only because he was dead on his feet with 15 minutes to go and never shirked.
At one point he came back defending and tried to get a breather as Al Habsi collected the ball, only for the keeper to roll it out to him. He looked up and saw 50 yards of open grass between him and our four goal-hangers, gritted his teeth, stifled a weep and set off haring forward again. Outstanding commitment.
As for Diame, if he is supposed to have a dodgy ticker, I’ll have one like that please.
As others have said, it is now customary in my opinion for Watson to have a good game, so maybe not so worthy of special comment – no less impressive for that, though.
17 May 2011 at 11:41 am #65890Goal hangers, not heard that phrase for a good 20 years !
I thought Diame showed real attitue in the first half when we went 2 down and some of the crowd were on the teams back, he stepped up and drove the ball forward and had a go.
Praise as well for Caldwell, as the challenges he was putting in were outstanding, he may be slow and agile as an oil tanker, but he does put himself on the line.
17 May 2011 at 11:50 am #65897Was nice to see the commitment on Sunday with Calwell on the right wing with 5 mins left and Alcaraz, Boyce, Diame all out on the feet but still fighting for every ball.
Same again next week would do nicely -
