That’s a quality signing. No doubt mutty will come on and tell us he’s no good.
Slowly building a good squad that should easily be able to consolidate at the very least.
7 July 2021 at 10:02 am #192949Hope the new owners know what they are doing.Still mentally scarred from the last twelve months was sort of hoping we would be a bit more prudent with our transfer dealings.Seems a hell of a lot of money for this level.
7 July 2021 at 11:09 am #192950We haven’t spent a penny Phoenix apart from the players contract and I’m sure the owners know their budget and will stick to it. We wont get lumbered with a 19 million pound wage bill again you can bet your life on that. Fact is we need to sign players but swap quality for quantity. Last season showed we can bring in lads from the development squad if and when needed so I reckon the plan is to build a small but high quality first team squad and back it up with our youngsters . Keeping the wage bill down but having a forceful side as well. COYL
7 July 2021 at 11:32 am #192951Hope you are right but its the contract I am worried about.Apparently £10,000 a week. We need to sign more players are they going to be asking for the same ? Before we know it the wage structure will be unsustainable for a club at our level. I might just be panicking after nightmare we have all just endured over the last twelve months .
7 July 2021 at 11:41 am #192952Most if not all the players we have signed thus far phoenix have come on frees – therefore saving the club a lot of money. I’ve not seen anything about 10k wages in all honesty.
7 July 2021 at 7:35 pm #192954Wyke is a fantastic bit of business. He has a current market value of £2m and we’ve got him for nowt. We have signed him on a 3 year deal so will potentially cost us £1.5m in wages during that period, all the time being an asset for £2m. These lads know what they are doing.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!8 July 2021 at 7:10 am #192955He’s had one very good season – the two before that were pretty woeful. 10K a week for a 3rd divsion player is a hell of a lot considering the average wage is £2K a week in this league, but i’m sure whoever has sanctioned it knows what they are doing. I know that Sunderland didnt think enough of him to pay him that sort of wage – possibly because they are paying almost double that for a certain other striker who is still fluffing chances from 2 yards out.
I hope he does well for you from the 2nd game of the season onwards.
8 July 2021 at 9:19 am #192958Not wrong Stu.
8 July 2021 at 12:43 pm #192962I agree with him too Egg. Signing players from the top end of the 3rd division should mean that you wont finish a couple of points off the relegation spots this coming season.
Slowly building a good squad that should easily be able to consolidate at the very least.
8 July 2021 at 1:57 pm #192964The more I think about his wages, the more concerned I now become. I hope our new owners know what they are doing & we don’t end up like our neighbours.
8 July 2021 at 3:55 pm #192965If we base the signing on last season then yes,
If we look at it over his career
No.
Wyke will have no doubt looked at the money and more importantly, a 3 year deal. That’s a long contract regardless especially in today’s climate.
I suppose our new owners are basing the 10k wages on the extra revenue in the Championship were 10k a week is middle to low in comparison to plenty other players8 July 2021 at 9:12 pm #192967The more I think about his wages, the more concerned I now become. I hope our new owners know what they are doing & we don’t end up like our neighbours.
Glad you share my concerns Runcorn.I really don’t want to be a kill joy but I definitely don’t want us to be in the same position we were in in a couple of years time.I would have been more than happy with sensible recruitment with a mid table finish and build slowly from that within our budget.I might just be panicking for no good reason ,hope so !
9 July 2021 at 1:46 pm #192968The point your missing is he is a free signing. No different to paying £5-600k on a player and giving him £4k a week. He’s only 28 so his value will still be there for a few years to come.
We are talking about billionaire’s and questioning if they know what they’re doing. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!9 July 2021 at 5:16 pm #192969Just for the record chaps, Wyke is on 8k a week not 10k….Just saying.
Fuck the EFL
