In context, £8K a week will equate to around a third of all season ticket sales going on the wages of one player.

Or his wages have been paid with the money the EFL owed us for the last 2 seasons mutt. Either way the owners are gonna have a budget they are happy with and will stick to it. He is still on a fraction of what McGeady is getting

      #192974

I suspect McGeady is on less than that actually Nuneaton, having just signed a new deal. Nobody was going to pay him the silly money he was on before, and clearly if Wyke has taken the largest offer, then it stands to reason that Sunderland are now paying what players are worth in L1 rather than what they were worth in the Championship. He also extended his previous contract by a year to effectively halve his wage, and recently waived his right to a year’s extension, so I doubt its about the money for him. He is settled in the area with his kids at a local school and is at the end of his career. When you compare him with the other Irishman at Sunderland who bleeds the club every week for close to £20K whilst putting in zero effort and garbage performances, then they are like chalk and cheese.

And of course, 8K a week doesnt represent 33% of ST revenue at Sunderland, considering we’ve flogged well over 21,000 already with Adult prices ranging from £360-£500.

Mutt 21000 season tickets is amazing at any club and we can only dream about selling that kind of numbers. Your crowds have always been superb and should be for the population of the area and only 2 clubs of note. But when are folk going to realise that crowd sizes win fook all. Why are you still in league 1 why do the barcodes never win a thing?. I think I will stick with our history small crowds massive trophy cabinet. But if Sunderland dont walk this league with these mega rich owners they have then even you must admit that your enormous crowds are not worth a light.

That’s a quality signing. No doubt mutty will come on and tell us he’s no good.

Missing – One Charlie Wyke. Last seen in the pocket of a 17 year old making his league debut.

It looks like many on Latics Speyk also disagree with Stupid Stu.

Wyke was disappointing to say the least. I’m not sure how many of those Hail Mary’s he won but I bet I could count it on one finger.
We need to sort the left back position out and add some width both sides or Wykes will be money badly spent. He’s a player who needs it to feet head in the 6 yard box or you might as well forget it and use him as an impact player.

Humphrys needs to start for me and we need to organise the defence better (Robinson in) because at times we defended like an u12’s Sunday side i.e their second goal.

All’s I can say is, Richardson has def got his work cut out sorting out this player jigsaw puzzle and he needs to do it in super quick time.

Very true CW. Wyke doesn’t have McGeady to put the chance on a plate this season so someone else will have to set them up for him. Perhaps Jones once he’s match fit will be the one, but not to the extent of last year which was a fluke season for Wyke. 9 league goals in 51 appearances over the previous two seasons and a career history of less than 1 in 3 prior to last season.

If you are after a left back then Denver Hulme is out of contract, but I’m not sure if he was one of Max Power’s drinking buddies!

Not sure I will panic after 1 game.

The Sunderland fans talking about Wyke being pocketed by a kid all seem to have forgotten the two games last season when our kids beat your superstars. Short memories football fans.

I agree with Stu, Wyke will score goals for us but we need to figure out how to play with him in the team. Reminds me of when we had Simon Haworth.

45 games to go. I seem to recall losing at Coventry on the opening day before winning theeague at a canter. I also recall winning on the opening day and being relegated.

Keep your powder dry for now eh mutty lad.

It’s no panic stations it’s just if you bring in a goal scorer you gotta play to his strengths which in the case of Wyke, balls coming in from the wide positions and not long humped up field Hail Marys.
Hopefully Jones will offer that at least on one side but I’m more worried about our left and right back. We were woeful for large parts of the game.

I think this season might be nothing more than putting your house in order, finding our feet. I just hope I’m wrong a out Wyke

A season of putting our house in order is fine by me. We need stability.

I was surprised when Darinkwa was given the captaincy tbh. Never fills me with confidence when he’s defending.

I’ll give it another 5 or 6 games before I start to panic though.

                #193175

We have too many players on 1 year deals you can’t hope to win anything that way.

Congratulations to Sunderland on winning the league.
