Difficult one to call this, whilst I reckon we would have a better chance against Chelsea, after Millwall, I’d prefer ManUre to win tomorrow.
a) Because I’d love to see the look on Ferguson’s face when we cause the biggest upset in 25 years
b) Both the Mancs are 100% deffo for the Champ League, whereas Chelsea don’t look certain of at least 5th place especially after loosing yesterday. Would be awful now to get to final and not get into Europe

Met up with Rio Ferdinand in a bar / hotel in Qatar last week.
Requested a couple of favours of him
(i) photo – for benefit of my 11 year-old nephew, a staunch United fan (unfortunately)
(ii) that he ensures United get beat in Cup Semi, to improve our (Wigan’s) chances our fa cup success as I ‘m sit to the back teeth of being given a drubbing by United seemingly every time we play them.
His response on both fronts was ‘ NO PROBLEM’
Top guy, approachable to boot – not forgotten the fact that we JOE PUBLIC pay his wages, finance the lifestyle to which he’s accustomed.

31 March 2013 at 11:57 pm #106913Chelsea are still in the Europa League too.
If they reach both the Europa League Final and the FA Cup Final, they will have to play 17 games in 7 weeks. They are playing Sat Mon Thurs and Sun this week and they would have do this once more.
So perhaps Chelsea would be the best opponents to play. They got off to a bad start yesterday, losing at Southampton. They also play strugglers Sunderland (h) and Aston Villa (a).

Lets hope they get better results in them two.

No score yet in unexciting game.
1 April 2013 at 6:39 pm #107115You can see Chelsea falling down the league now cant you.
Still I think our chances would be best against Chelsea rather than the fire power of Man City providing we don’t give Mata the sort of time on the ball he had today.
What a player he is.
On a side note Man U fans on my facebook make our fickle fans look like die hards.
One of them wants a refund on his half season ticket, one is calling for that south american Valencia to be sent back ha and Nani should be fired out of a cannon.
I actually agree with the last one he must get worse every time I see him play.

1 April 2013 at 7:46 pm #107124If Chelsea win the FA Cup but finish 5th, does the runner up still get into the Europa but has to navigate the qualifiers first?
1 April 2013 at 8:16 pm #107126There’s a good page on Wikipedia;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013%E2%80%9314_UEFA_Europa_LeagueWhen the domestic cup winners (considered as the “highest-placed” qualifier within the national association with the latest starting round) also qualify for the Champions League, their Europa League place is vacated. As a result, either of the following teams qualify for the Europa League:
The domestic cup runners-up, provided they have not yet qualified for European competitions, qualify for the Europa League as the “lowest-placed” qualifier (with the earliest starting round), with the other Europa League qualifiers moved up one “place”.
Otherwise, the highest-placed team in the league which have not yet qualified for European competitions qualify for the Europa League, with the Europa League qualifiers which finish above them in the league moved up one “place”.
When the domestic cup winners also qualify for the Europa League through league position, their place through the league position is vacated. As a result, the highest-placed team in the league which have not yet qualified for European competitions qualify for the Europa League, with the Europa League qualifiers which finish above them in the league moved up one “place” if possible.
If Chelsea beat Wigan in the Cup Final and finish in fifth place, then the sixth placed team will qualify – not Wigan as cup runners up.
1 April 2013 at 8:17 pm #107127The Daily Mail – spreading the good news.
1 April 2013 at 8:24 pm #107128Thanks Doug – your last sentence has made it all clear now, as I saw that Mail article and got confused.
Trust Chelsea to potentially go and ruin the prize for either us or Millwall. Here’s hoping City get to the final then – good chance too if they’ve lost the title, and Chelsea are still banking on 4th and/or still in the Europa.1 April 2013 at 8:45 pm #107129So Wigan are now supporting Chelsea in the League but not the Cup. Meanwhile, all Liverpool are supporting Chelsea in the Cup but not the League.
If Chelsea win the Cup and finish fifth, then the sixth team (probably Everton or Liverpool) will qualify for Europe. If Everton or Liverpool finish in fifth place, then they will automatically qualify for Europe.
It’s also possible that Chelsea or Tottenham could win the Europa League. That raises further possibilities – I’ll have to think about it! It’s getting interesting at the top and bottom of the table.
1 April 2013 at 8:47 pm #107130Lets just win it and be done with it B)
1 April 2013 at 8:58 pm #107131The winners of the 2012–13 UEFA Europa League are given an additional entry as title holders if they do not qualify for the 2013–14 UEFA Champions League or Europa League through domestic performance
If the Europa League title holders qualify for the Champions League or the Europa League through domestic performance, the default allocation system above will have to be altered as some places become vacant. When moving entrants to later qualifying rounds, priority is given to domestic cup winners of the highest-ranked associations.
This is getting complicated! Let’s just make sure by winning the Cup.
