There are some absolute clowns on here…

Bobby Out, Whelan’s fault Graham Jones is rubbish as a number 2?

Are people forgetting something here? I bet the moaners on here would have got rid of Jewell after his disastrous first half of the season…..and where would we be now?

Give it time, a poor result on Saturday but not a poor performance for the first 60 mins. I quite like the style of play, good patient build-up but there are a few things missing…who on here would have thought everything would be miraculously in place when Martinez started?

I think we are doing OK, we have a manager who has passion for football but more importantly, has a passion for this great club. He has seen us from the grass roots of the league and I bet it is really hurting him (and Jonsey) when we get beat. That’s the feeling when you are on the way home and you don’t want to talk to anyone because you are so gutted (Mrs Cornflake hates it when we lose!). All in all, we are not too far off from where we were last season.

Anyway, my point is this. I personally think we are playing the best style of football ever. I think the 4-5-1 style is really good (I am a big 4-4-2 fan, but 4-4-2 is pretty static to watch in my (new) opinion). I think N’Zogbia is far more effective on the right than on the left, his shot in to the top corner proved that! I think Hugo is a bit wasted on the left and I would like to see Sinclair on the left (using Bob’s formation) or controversially, use Scotland on the left if he can use both feet.

There are some missing links which were very obvious on Saturday, especially after Brum scored their first:

A real leader:- I like Melchiot, but he doesn’t run around screaming at people and getting them to raise their game, we need a leader who can raise the lads heads when we go down or when we need a lift. Cattermole was really good at this last season.

Another central defender:- Again, I like Boyce/Bramble, but we need some brains at the back. Bramble is a good defender, but I get the feeling that someone needs to be commanding the back line more. Someone with pace as Bramble was left eating the mud of Benetez’s boots!

A creative player:- Sharner doesn’t fit well in the hole behind the striker. He doesn’t link the play from Diame and Thomas….this is why I think we can be a bit weak in midfield sometimes as Thomas and Diame must cover about 5000 miles a match. Someone needs to link the play, someone who can spot a run or play the killer pass…..Nobody in the team (apart from Koumas??) can do this. This is one of our main problems.

So, in essence, a minimum of three players are needed. I think by the end of this season, we will be in good shape providing Bob gets the players in that he wants.

Keep the faith, due to our recent form, we should be in for the win next week ;)

      At last, someone talking sense.

As for using Scotland on the left, not too sure about that, although we had some success with Lee McCulloch making the same switch from frontman to left midfield.

so what your saying is dont sack anybody keep doing as we are now,
but implement the changes you want  so we’ll sack melchiot as captain for a real leader , sack either boyce/bramble at center half and get a quicker version, sack scharner and bring in a creative man who links up,and are you suggesting bringing back koumas ?
to cap it all play scotland wide ?

you say give it time until bobby gets the players he wants- does that include scotland – gomez – amaya – mccarthy – sinclair 3 more like that and not only will we be in good shape we will be flying

      mmmmmmmmm !!!

once again everybody including the “clowns” on here are at fault and martinez is of no blame, forget about being totally out thought by yet another manager on saturday and another -3 goals to our spectacular conceeded tally,”keep the faith

Finally a fan with a brain a cell! Only thing i disagree with is Sinclair to come into the side… i just don’t think hes good enough. In January i would like to see us buy a right or left sided midfielder( as i do think that N’zogbia is just good on the right and left), and then crack Hugo up top.

Only way Hugo can go ‘up top’, as you say, is with someone playing alongside him, and I can’t see us switching to 4-4-2. Martinez has already said that Rodallega is too Lightweight for the lone striker role. (There was more meat on Karen Carpenter) I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for the formation change, though.

          Loudmouthblue,

You must realise that because Martinez is a club legend, he can’t possibly be doing anything wrong.

I cannot believe how many people have been ‘bought’ by the ‘prodigal son of Whelan returning, to inherit what is rightfully his’, simply because he played a few decent games when we were in the lower divisions and did a few fancy matador-esque celebrations after scoring against such European football giants as Scarborough.

The truth of the matter is, Whelan knew that he’d have the majority of fans on side, and even if things go wrong (as they are doing) he’d be buying himself more time, simply because of the ‘Roberto is King’ brigade. I have no doubt that Dungeonmaster would sell us straight away, if someone came in and offered him what he thinks we are worth. No doubt at all.

And when we are rubbish, and mid table in the 3rd division, with 4,000 crowds and mounting debts, with Pat Gavin Jr at number 9, and people are moaning “Where’s all the bloody kids, these days?” The truth will be that they are all rehearsing for ‘Karate Kid The Musical’ at the drama club, or playing ping-pong at Dave’s Youth Club, situated in central Wigan, and funded by the money he got from selling Latics.

Back to Roberto. I’m not saying he’s not a lovely bloke. He is. I’m not saying he’s not got great knowledge of the game. He probably has. (but so has Alan Hansen) I’m not saying that I WANT him to fail. I most certainly do not. I would LOVE him to sort things out. But it’s what I have seen so far that has alarmed me so much. The lack of a ‘plan b’ when things need changing, and naivety. These are things the Swansea fans said, although it was taken as sour-grapes. Perhaps they were right? Perhaps Martinez was lucky at Swansea, and took over an already half-decent side? (at that level) And now he has taken over a ‘has-been and never will be’ side at a higher level.

January is the crunch time, as far as I am concerned. Either he’ll bring the right players in, and will be backed up by his chairman, or else it will be apaprent that he is out of his depth. Cruel? Harsh? No. To use a phrase used by Whelan in the past “Time and tide waits for no man”. Well, wait long enough, and we might just sink.

(If you read this and don’t agree, fair enough. But I’m not telling lies, am I?)

Loudmouth….to sack someone would prevent them from playing again….thats not the point I am making. Obviously, some things do need changing but were not exactly at the bottom of the league with 7 points are we?

I can’t wait to be proved right. Deep down, you KNOW I am.

IF we bring any players in, it will be someone from Swansea, some Spanish player who’s on the cheap, someone who is without a club, because they have an injury record on a par with Simon Weston, etc, etc.

Can anybody HONESTLY see Dungeonmaster opening the chequebook to bring in anybody half-decent?

It’s always the same…..the CHEAP option.

But no Griffo, I’ll sit back now and await January.

no but we were hammered 4-0 by the team that is/was(i’ll check later)

but even so 2 of the bottom 3 played us off the park.

Scotland on the left? No work rate I’m afraid, he’s better off dressing up as Laticat than on the pitch I think.

Agree with your analysis of Mario, who in my opinion was too slow and not good enough at least a year ago. Did say so on here, but nobody agreed…

And I have to disagree with N’Zogbia being on the left. He is by far our best dribbler, so put him on the left where he can dribble. On the right he can only come inside and get tackled due to the lack of space. And Hugo is a waste on the left.

Why doesn’t Martinez realise that against Sunderland when Rodallega went up front and N’Zogbia went to the left. We looked really dangerous and actually scored. When Rod was on the left and Zog on the right. We wouldn’t have scored in 24 hours.

                    D’you know, you’re right.

Get yourself down to the JJB now, turf Bob out his desk and get him to take over your shift at Burger King tonight.

And I’m all in favour of giving Martinez time, unlike some of the posters on here.

And P.S I don’t work in Burger King.
