I’ve moaned on another thread about the poor support today. But a few things around the stadium annoyed me as well.

No burger vans. The usual vans were nowhere to be seen. Leaving people with the alternative of getting something inside the ground…..

….large queues at refreshment kiosks and people being told that they had ran out of pies, and that no hot dogs or burgers were ready. A good few people were cheesed off.

The burger vans previously abandoned us when the eggchasers went to Wembley. This isnt good enough. I woupd seriously love the club to kick these into touch and get new vendors in.
And the concourse catering company needs a kick up its behind as well. Not good enough.

The small crowd, small thinking, half-arsed attitude just isnt good enough.

I’m pretty sure the burger vans are private vendors and have ball all to do with the club. It was obviously going to be a paltry crowd like many in this round and maybe they thought it wouldn’t be worth their while so didn’t bother.

Do you think they juat come and pitch up then?

Obviously they have tendered a deal with the club/stadium. Either they provide a blanket service across all our fixtures, regardless of competition or anticipated attendance, or dont bother at all and let someone else cater.

And the catering inside the ground? Shocking today.

My steak pie was excellent as usual and there was no queue at all at 2.40pm.

            There’s two potential reasons.

Firstly profit margins. The burger vans will know how many they sell on a match day, and will calculate it against the footfall (attendance). If the footfall reduces by 66%, it doesn’t necessarily follow that the burger vans overheads fall by 66% – it still costs the same in fuel, generator costs and staff wages to bring a van from wherever to the DW and position it for 2-3 hours. Maybe when they did their calculations, it just wasn’t financially viable.

Secondly, notice given. Remember this wasn’t a pre-planned league fixture, and the companies may have already planned to operate somewhere else that day. These vans are used across the North West, not just at the DW for 3 hours every other Saturday.

Vat, its the Council that issues licences and determines where they can pitch, the club will have no say whatsoever.

Organised bonfires/firework displays could have been the reason why the burger vans weren’t there? Just a thought.

Like mutt says it wasn’t a deemed home game as we could have easily been drawn away. Like you say fil they could have easily taken bookings elsewhere because there was no game planned until a few weeks ago.

Stop letting facts and real life get in the way of a Vat whinge.
