Burnley were the better side especially for the first 30 minutes and 1-5 didn’t actually reflect our performance.
I liked Shinnie playing in a more forward position rather than sitting 2″ off the backline, he offered far far more when he was forward thinking.
MacClean was totally exposed and that’s a position we struggle in. For me I’d have Pearce playing in front of MacClean giving us a bit more width.
The difference was the finishing. Burnley had 6 shots on target 5 goals we had 4 shots 1 goal and more shots off target.

So let’s see, Humphrys,Wyke,Broadhead,Magennis 4 forwards on the bench ? And Fletcher to come ???. I struggle to understand why at least 1 from 4 didn’t start. I don’t think Lang or Keane have set the world on fire so 1 should have started.
Burnley had no one forward to deal with which made their job far easier. At times they struggled in the air. Corners balls over the top, root one stuff they looked atab ropey so at some point you you have thought one of the four forwards would have seen some action earlier or even started.

At the end of the day it’s not the Burnleys we should be bothered about but when what I thought would be our competitors Reading are topping the League we are going to find this League even more harder than I thought.

So back to the nobbers who come on here with LR’s jizz dripping off their chins.
The buck stops with him. Yesterday leaving all 4 forwards on the bench made no sense.
We have 5 forwards yes 5 !! And none started. It’s wasn’t about losing yesterday as times we were the better side it was about the finishing. Like I said 4 shots to 6 on target and lose 1-5 ?.
In this league you have to bury your chances as they as few and far between but we had 4 on target 6 off.
So that burning question is, why? Why all those forwards? Why didnt at least one start considering Burnley didn’t look to clever with stuff in the air, Why doesn’t Aasgaard get start ?.
Would it have changed things yesterday? probably not but then again …..

We lacked for nothing in effort yesterday but as I’ve said before

Dead simple……didn’t agree with his starting line up but come on !!!….2-1 down,Keane misses chance the linesman drops a clanger when we looked on the up. F######## game ending decision!!! Forget the next 2 goals, that F##### us and completely deflated us. Of course we know the quality they have but who knows outcome if 3rd disallowed. Not a massive Maginess fan but today was a day he should have started. Blackpool roughed then up and made them defend like a Sunday league team. We paid them way toomuch respect.

That’s what I’m saying, LR should have give the Blackpool game a watch he might have noticed a thing or 2. I don’t normally advocate lump it to the big guy but yesterday was screaming for it simply to to put their defenders under a bit and lay it off as Burnley didn’t seem to like anything aerial.

Up front we made it easy for Burnley which in turn gave Burnley the momentum but at the end of the day
They put away their chances while our forwards squeezed themselves onto the bench
Listen, I praised LR at Birmingham bringing on Wyke and Broadhead, a very brave decision to call and it paid off especially down to 10 then for some reason he does that yesterday. Broadhead showed his quality at Birmingham and that’s what we lacked in front of goal against Burnley.

I’m not sure if Aasgaard has had a dump in LR’s office draw but if I were him I’d knock the door off for a loan move

As has been posted on another site, if ever there was a time to now give the starting line up a change, now is the time.

Yesterday would have made sense to have kept Keane in a midfield role. Played Bennett as left wing back and have Wyke and Broadhead as the two strikers.
That would have given us Lang Shinnie and McClean on the bench.

After a poor start we were right in the game .The turning point was the miss by Keane within a minute Burnley made it 3 – 1 ,the goal should never have been given it looked offside at the game and the highlights confirmed it was . I think had it stayed at 2 – 1 we would have got stronger and who knows maybe would have got something out of the game. Putting the three forward subs on near the end left us exposed at the back and Burnley took full advantage. We will learn from this Burnley will be right up there at the end of the season , no need to panic .

MacClean isn’t a left back and it showed. If he is put into that position he needs cover so why wasnt Bennett playing or included? not even on the bench.
I’m sorry but LR messes with the side when not needed.
Lang and Keane won’t have the time and space as they did in League One and although their both playing ok they don’t have the same impact against better opponents.
Yesterday’s team selection again proved to me that he isn’t a manager he’s a very good coach

As previously pointed out, had he watched how Blackpool pressed, hurried, and bullied Burnley he might have started with say Magennis and Broadhead or Wyke up top and gone direct and in their faces from ko.

I will praise LR when he gets it right but tbh that will be far far less compared to the times he gets it wrong.
As for Aasgaard?. LR did it again, he got Magennis and Broadhead up and ready and at the same time got Aasgaard up.
              Then
He changes his mind and sends Aasgaard back down the touchline with yellows on as though LR had changed his mind like he did the other week.
Then LR changed his mind again and to him to strip off. Strange again from LR very strange it’s as though he’s winding him up

Agree but when teams we thought (our main competitors) the likes of Reading get off to a flyer I think to keep in this league is going to be even harder that I originally anticipated.
I just think our team selection at times stinks of loyalty, not one new player started Saturday in a side we all know needed to be upgraded from last season to compete in this league.

I also think Pearce is possibly one of the best left sided crossers of the ball in the lowers and never used even though Wyke scored a fair few of his Sunderland goals from crosses and Magennis needing the same rather than back to goal.

Aasgaard our most gifted footballer doesn’t get enough match time to improve as a player.

Our midfield needs badly addressing with Cousins seemingly a long term injury prone player. We need a bully in there because at times Power gets caught out trying to do all the donkey/headless chicken work.

I don’t think were that far off holding our own but if your manager thinks leaving 4 forwards out the starting line up is the way to win a game then I’m sorry I have concerns whether he’s equipped for this league.

We have some half decent players but disruption by team selection will not help. 3 at the back for me killed us leaving MacClean who let’s face it ain’t a defender trying to get back to cover with Bennett been dropped to the stands not even the bench ! another crazy decision.

A good tradesman never blames his tools and in our case I don’t, it’s how you use them. Shinnie looked far far better in a more forward thinking roll rather than been asked to hold Naylor’s hand as he was in previous games but how long did it take LR to discover that?.
I’m not one but convinced he’s managerial material more a coach but only time will tell.

Reading are off to a flier. The question is will they be there or thereabouts come the end of the season?

Did Leam make changes today that impacted the game and turned the result or was I dreaming?

I reckon that’s just 2 away defeats from the last 25 away league games. One of them was at Portsmouth when the players were dead on their feet.

Some pretty special away days with late winners aplenty at the likes of Oxford, Plymouth, Birmingham and Luton.

Plenty comebacks at the likes of Fleetwood, Cambridge and Morecambe.

Please carry on being a shit manager Leam

Needs to start Asgaard , far too good to leave on the bench.

I think Aasgaard is being managed perfectly ,he will get more and more game time as the season goes on. We have a real gem on our hands here and the opposition will fear him if he starts or comes on off the bench. Loved the way he controlled the ball with the sole of his foot and then curled it into the corner of the net, real composure and confidence in his own ability. Shinnie should be starting games now, it has taken him time to settle not surprising after the issues at Derby but he looks a lot happier and is showing the qualities we all knew he had.
Overall a great win yesterday, Leam got the tactics right . We weathered the expected early pressure ,they visibly tired and we made the right subs at the right time completely turning the game around. :yahoo:

Yesterday was an ugly win clinched by a moment of beauty. Long may it continue.

I read somewhere that Telo has alway needed to be managed carefully to avoid injuries. To me he looks to have gained in physical strength and he’s certainly got steel in his character. I think he’s ready to be starting games.

For me Telo has surpassed Joe Gelhart in legend status, although Joffy was obviously younger.

Jack Clarke at Sunderland is coming on leaps and bounds by playing regular for them. He is also 20 years old and played 17 games for the black cats last season.
There’s only so long you can keep holding players back before they start to think they might be better going elsewhere to get games, so open talks with their agents. We cannot let this happen to Thelo, the lad looks ready.
Leam needs to start him to see how he responds to the task. If it doesn’t come off they continue to work on him in training and he goes back to the bench, but a minimum if 3 -4 games he should get. Look how long it took Magennis to start playing, 12-13 games?

Jack Clarke had a shocker on Monday night. The previous game he was outstanding, but thats what you get with the youngsters. The owners and management have gone for this model of only buying young talent, and we as fans accept that there will be bumps in the road with this model, particularly in a higher division. Give them a fair run in the team and accept that sometimes they’ll just be ineffective.
