Very quiet on here of late, anyone would think think that most have resigned themselves to the fact that we might go down and they could be right ya know! Now obviously any relegated side a season and a half relegated is going to be a shadow of it’s former self but I think our’s is looking like League One fodder and I am not on the wind up! Slowly but surely I think that most of our fans have accepted that we have no God given right to be back in the Prem and that our 8 year stint was just an amazing anomaly but now we are back from whence we came and it is a whole different ball game ( Well It’s still football but ya know what I mean ! )A combination of two failed managers have left us with some pretty sub standard signings, sub standard enough to see us languishing one off the bottom of the table and if Malky can’t sort the wheat from the chaff very quickly, trust me we will be in a relegation dogfight! I just hope that all this recent bad press isn’t going to put the mockers on DW splashing some more of that parachute money so that Malky can right a few wrongs! In recent times Wolves have done the double drop and Birmingham avoided it by the skin of their teeth last season so don’t think that it can’t happen because it can, the question is what can be done to prevent it? Laugh at me all you like but I for one would welcome Caldwell back into the heart of the defence ( Instead of Barnett ) for his experience and leadership as this is his level these days. I would take Boycie aside and thank him for all of his efforts and dedication but tell him that he is going to be a fringe player from now on, I would replace him with Tavernier if fit or Perch. Before anyone starts giving the ” Not another ‘Football Manager’ gamer ” I am just offering up my opinion on the current woes! Midfield would have to see Forshaw removed and sent out on loan if anybody would have him to get his game up to scratch because he is very much off the pace so far this season! We can’t afford to have him playing in league games dithering about whilst being closed down and then either passing it back or to one of the opposition! Not sure about up front and the long winded 2 up front or not debate! Something has to give though surely! At the end of the day we are not where we are by bad luck or kismet, we are down there because of bad management and let’s hope that Malky can turn things rounds and so ‘Let’s Be Having You’ on Saturday getting behind the lads and at least doing what we are meant to be doing, supporting the team! :)

I think we’re a good side blighted by some poor individual performances/decisions (player/managerial).
Nobody has given us a proper tonking (yet) and I’ve not walked away from a game this season thinking that there is something inherently wrong and there was nothing that couldn’t be put right. Even against Wednesday last Saturday, there were moments during the game where we looked streets ahead of our opponents only to be let down my some individual errors that cost us the game.
We do have goalscorer issues, as in we haven’t got one. I don’t know the answer here but it is of my opinion that the solution doesn’t involve Holt, Delort and Riera. Over to Malky on that one.
Top half finish for me.

Pretty much agree with that, but we do need to start turning in some results soon-ish
3 December 2014 at 6:28 pm #136433Pretty much agree with that, but we do need to start turning in some results soon-ish100% agree. We need some confidence in a few areas which will come with time together as opposed to more ins and outs than the hokey cokey. Few wins and we’ll be off.
Head says top half, heart says 6th. Just think our poor start will be the undoing of top 6 hopes.
3 December 2014 at 7:39 pm #136436I was wasting time in work yacking with a contractor we use (& fellow Latics fan) about the merits of our squad earlier this week & what I think is the root of Latics problems is not so much that the players are individually poor or so much worse than the players at other clubs, its that for the first time since I’ve been following Latics I can look at the squad and I don’t think that I could tell you what I thought is best starting XI & likewise the playing system which would best utilise the players talents.
In every area of the field if I think that one area would suit one type of formation then it means the players we have aren’t suite to playing in the roles elsewhere in that system. For example if we go with 2 up front I don’t think that we have the central midfielders suited to playing 2 in the middle or enough out & out wingers (at a push it’s McClean’s best position but it aint either Maloney’s or McManaman’s) needed for a 4-4-2. Go with 3 in the middle & 2 up front then for me there’s no position for Maloney, McClean or McManaman & you lose some of our most potent & quickest attacking threats.
If you go with the 1 up front & 2 advanced midfielders used under Bobby we aint got the person up front capable of playing that role effectively enough.
I don’t think the centre halves we have suit having 2 there but put 3 at the back & I don’t think we have anyone effective enough at left wing back.I think that it comes from having had 4 managers in little over 19 months all with their own types of system & preferred players, and a high number of players leaving due to needing to balance the books & they themselves wanting to play at higher levels. Its led to a right hotch potch of a squad, very few of which I think are poor but who don’t compliment each other

It was probably deleted automatically to save everybody the tedium of reading it ;)
3 December 2014 at 11:32 pm #136440think we’ll be ok, need a couple of wins to boost confidence and a few decent players ( forwards ) bringing in in the transfer window. what promised to be a promotion battle has turned into a relegation fight, so be it, lets get on with it, stick together and get behind the manager and the team.

To be fair griff it wasnt that tedious a post. I know that things haven’t been going too well for us this season both on & off the pitch, but that aside, this is my first game since early october due to work mainly & i really cant wait to go.
