There was another Mirror guy, Steve Stammers, on Talksport yesterday. He said exactly the same thing.
He said that instead of slagging off Wigan fans praise should be given to the Wigan managers that have kept the team in the Pl despite being hamstrung by low crowds, etc.
He is also one of the first journos I have heard acknowledge the specific difficulties Wigan have in attracting new fans when there are Liverpool/Everton and United/City arguably providing a bigger attraction just down the road.
Common sense doesnt sell papers unfortunately, niether does it make good radio (talksport), im of the opinion that some “fans” of “big” clubs just need to be told that their particular club is best , their fans are second to none (in the way you would humour a 6 year old having a strop) and that they should just be handed the League and FA cup on day one of the season.

Agreed Foureyes but it’s not often our side of the story is told mon
The fans of big clubs make my moobs leak…..why can’t they see that attendances are based on percentage of support….
I’ll wager most big clubs have at the very least 100,000 fans living within the area of their ground, therefore they will probably be able to fill 30,000 seats for most games.
If you have about 20,000 fans living within the area of your ground, which I’ll wager is about right for Latics, we will often struggle to get 20,000 to attend the ground.
The top four and teams like Everton, Spurs, Man City (now) and several others have numerous supporters from all over the place who turn up to their games. We have a small group of supporters from outside Wigan who manage to get to games.
It’s something to be proud of that we are a small town team mixing it with big City teams, and a massive percentage of our support is drawn from the local area.
Winding up thick big team fans is what makes staying in the Prem worth it for me.

It did state that London as at least 9 million living there while Greater Manchester (spit) as at the most 3 million people to choose their support

I’m not disputing those figures 32, in fact I think they sort of help back up what I am saying, but I have read the article again and can’t see those figures quoted?
I must admit i heard the bit on Talksport that Griffs on about and was surprised, it just seems that more often we hear that clubs should “know their place”, if you came out with that sort of talk about anything else you be branded racist, sexist or homophobic, possibly all three. Anyway im going opening a bottle of Merlot as i seem to be on a downer. :D
Merlot is a red wine, i have developed a taste for the Jacobs Creek 2008 reserve, its nice mate. :)

At the risk of upsetting folk, i cant stand Guinness, i wouldnt recommend it over there either as its blinkin dear in Dublin and the south at the moment, i avoid spending in the south unless its necessary as the economy and the euro are going t*ts up.(well worse than ours anyway).
The attitude of that Spurs fan sums up everything that’s wrong with the Premier League.
He’d happily throw out clubs like Latics, Bolton and Blackburn, simply because they have smaller fanbases, yet the sum of his clubs ambition is to finish in the top four, something they’ve yet to achieve.
