Coyle has blown anything spectacular in the leagu
e so lets just go for it in the cups.19 October 2013 at 9:16 pm #122445If we can’t play well in the league, why do you think we can play well in the cups?
21 October 2013 at 10:15 pm #122516I’ll settle for winning the Europa league / cup thingy, then going up as champions in 2015.
21 October 2013 at 10:26 pm #122517You do realise that winning the Europa League would mean we’d be in the Champions League next season?
Bl00dy rubbish, Wigan. :(
21 October 2013 at 11:49 pm #122518If we can’t play well in the league, why do you think we can play well in the cups?We managed to play alright in 4 cup games last season despite playing absolute crap in the league most weeks.

yes we did, against lesser opposition, apart from everton, with a much better team. this team won’t be winning any cups or get promotion at the moment.22 October 2013 at 12:36 am #122524If we can’t play well in the league, why do you think we can play well in the cups?

We have made a less than ideal start, but there are signs that this team can play a bit.
There is a long way to go, we are doing alright in Europe, and the FA Cup is yet to start.
I am not saying we will win anything, but it’s a darn site more entertaining than the last few years. (apart from the FA Cup of course)I can’t see the feeling of last seasons FA Cup victory ever being eclipsed, I still have to pinch myself.
Beating Everton and realising we were going to Wembley was fantastic.
Going there and beating Millwall and realising we were going back as FA CUP FINALIST was something very special.
The feeling even now of actually beating City and winning THE FA CUP is something I still struggle to be able to put into words. Unbelievable. The point I am trying to make is, at this stage last season did you expect to be reading a paragraph like the one above. Things can change, we just have to be patient and keep supporting this fantastic club of ours.

yes i agree horc, the cup run last season was unbelievable for a club like ours, but we are not playing paticularly well at the moment and we will need to improve in the comming months to be challenging for cups or promotion22 October 2013 at 1:15 am #122527let’s just enjoy the European campaign and the season as a whole rather than moaning about the unlucky away results.
Still think we can make the play offs22 October 2013 at 1:34 am #122529I did take this thread, well the original post at least, as tongue-in-cheek. As if we are in any kind of position to make a real impact on either the FA Cup or the Europa League. Lightning, rarely if ever, strikes twice.
If there is any real desire within the club to get back to the Premiership then it must be this or next season before the parachute payments finish.

I wouldn’t say that we were playing badly last season – but the Premier League opposition was better than we were.
This season the Championship opposition is as good as we are – and I would say we are playing badly.
24 October 2013 at 2:32 am #122620It would have helped at Blackpool if OC had played his strongest team available and played players in position and at least started with one recognised striker.

What is his strongest team and why do you think he didn’t start with one recognised striker?
There are some clues in some of the other current threads.

The only clues are that you seem to agree or accept what the manager chose to do against Blackpool re team selection ! There are quite a few on here who counter that !
24 October 2013 at 2:12 pm #122634I know we’ve had injuries and a lot of games. Team rotation is a fine art, as both Moyes and Coyle have discovered.
But Holt – one of our two forwards – was injured on 25 August, over eight weeks ago! We haven’t had the choice of starting with two men up, or replacing one forward with another during a game, since then. The transfer window didn’t close until 2 September.
Coyle added McCann, McClean, Perch and Powell to our midfield players, bringing their number up to twelve, but has failed to sign a third forward – whether permanently or on loan – to fill the gap.
I don’t know whether Kazan will field a strong team tonight, or what choices Coyle has. But we’ve got a very heavy programme – I’d rest players tonight and in the away game against Kazan too.
