How good will it be to see our new triangular shaped corner flags. Another indicator to show how far we have come.
Hope its windy as fek first game so that they are flowing high and proud. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!15 June 2013 at 2:46 am #116224Sorry to be the bearer of ‘myth’ news:
Hi J
We are pleased to be able to assist and glad that you contacted us.
This ‘triangle corner/half-way line flags’ story is definitely a myth.
Flags can be any shape, as long as there is a flag.
The FIFA Law simply states:
Flagposts
A flagpost, not less than 1.5 m (5 ft) high, with a non-pointed top and a flag is placed at each corner.
Flagposts may also be placed at each end of the halfway line, not less than 1m (1 yd) outside the touch line.I hope that settles the argument.
Thanks
Jamie
TheFA.com”FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
15 June 2013 at 12:39 pm #116233Maybe it’s an unwritten tradition?
Are there clubs that haven’t won the fa cup that have triangular flags?
Be interesting to find out.
Well not that interesting.
I’m going for a brew.15 June 2013 at 4:09 pm #116254Sorry to be the bearer of ‘myth’ news:

TheFA.com”Could it be Jayt that your myth is a myth?
Check this forum out and 8 years ago it quotes exactly the same response that you have posted.

It is a “Jamie” that’s replied and that to me is a great coincidence and its exactly the same wording. Could it be that this response has been manufactured and passed around forums??

What a journey!15 June 2013 at 4:26 pm #116257No, JR. It is definitely a myth, I’m afraid.
A lot of clubs do apply the tale by flying triangular flags, but there is no truth in it, and if another club wants to fly a triangular flag then there is nothing to stop them.
The story appears everywhere in message boards but no-one has ever found a clear source to it, but most quote the film “Twin Town” as the source! Hardly proof. :)
I think the FA should know if they have any rules about this. There certainly is nothing in the Laws of the Game – as was said in the reply there have to be flags at the corners, at least 5 foot high with a non-pointed top.
15 June 2013 at 4:38 pm #116260It is a well known fallacy !
