Does anybody think a band that ONLY do covers should be hired for gigs?? Saw a band last night called ‘spidermonkeys’ and all they did was covers of songs, and the lead singer didn’t have that good of a voice to top it off, which, for me, begs the question of why they are actually being hired. I dont know what you think but I think the band need to have some of their own stuff in there at least.
Because most venues will only pay money to hear bands or singers performing songs that people know.
Bands who play ‘band venues’ usually only play for a few beers/fun. So if your after ££££’s for performing, you perform covers. Simple.
Here’s a band that have been “on the verge of being signed”…….

They are all getting to around 30 years of age now, settling down, having kids, etc. Thousands like them, up and down the country. I actually don’t think they have a bad sound, but I couldn’t tell you what they are singing about if you offered me a tenner to do so.
It’s alright messing about in bands when you are in your teens, or early twenties. But when you start settling down, you can’t be all over the place, out late, and playing for nothing. Reality hits home.
These men (Spidermonkeys) were playing at Boulevard in Wigan if you’ve heard of it. So do you think that they will be getting paid for that?
Oh and the band you posted in the link, wouldn;t listen to them personally. Ever. Sounded awful. They wouldn;t get signed to be fair, thta’s why they always told people they was ‘on the verge’. Even though they werent.

Dunno whether Spidermonkeys got paid at Boulevard or not. Personally, I wouldn’t gig for free…..unless it was for charity, or something. And then again, I know of some singers who demand FULL WHACK for charity gigs, which personally, I think is scandalous.

Where did you see the Spidermonkeys and what did you think of them? Also why are none of their songs on youtube and why are there no vids of them there either?
