I can guarantee that “Kick it Out”, the FA and the national press couldn’t believe their luck when Malky MacKay was appointed Manager at Wigan Athletic. They must also have thought that Christmas had come early when Dave Whelan made his rather naïve (and stupid)comments.
“Kick it Out” have been sitting on their butts being paid (rather handsomely I suspect) to satisfy the PC brigade that football is serious about equality and diversity. They would not dare tackle the Manchester Uniteds or Arsenals of this world and so they have found it difficult to justify their existence. Then along comes a sitting duck: Little Wigan with no support, no real power and a chairman who really should know better.
The self-righteous cowards come tumbling out of the woodwork to ingratiate themselves with the spiteful zealots who appear to have taken over our everyday lives.
Make no mistake, we have become the whipping boys because we are an easy target both for the press and “Kick it Out” and will be made to pay for all the perceived ills of society. As one of our Leyland friends has already said, we must stand firm behind the club and Dave Whelan as never before.

Agreed, but if hadn’t shouted off his daft, antiquated gob when it wasn’t needed, we wouldn’t have to stand by him quite as much as we have this week.

When my son was growing up, I always used Dave Whelan as an example of how it was possible to make it to the top without necessarily needing professional qualifications. I went on to tell him that the main ingredient was common sense and Dave Whelan had it by the “barrow load”.
You can imagine my utter astonishment when I found out what he had said.
