I reckon it was a great save but the office Liverpool fan reckons it was a crap penalty. As far as trajectory and height are concerned, it was a crap penalty but once you factor in that he absolutely leathered it, it would have beaten most keepers hence a great save.
Surely it is universally known that anything that Wigan (or a collection of other teams) do against “a big club” is due to the aforementioned big club having a bad day, poor performance, poor team selection, injuries (this is always referred to as an “injury crisis”), quagmire of a pitch, mid-week European game, behind the scenes issues or any one of a million reasons.

Except that the opposition played well.
I just had a meeting with our most senior partner, this afternoon. “see we nicked a point off you again last night, then?”, says I.
“Yeah, but we were crap, absolute garbage”, says he.

You missed that bit about “most senior partner” then? I’m daft but I’m not completely suicidal ;)
It wasn’t the best penalty in the world – to near the middle of the goal & to close to a keepers natural body position when diving.
However Al Habsi deserves great credit as he actually dived past the ball & his reflexes allowed him to compensate for that & get his arm to the ball. On top of that at the speed the ball was travelling it needed a strong arm & it got one
Working in Lievrpool I read the match reports in both the Post & the Echo & as someone else was stated it was pretty much all about Liverpool being thwarted by an inspired keeper (again apparently).
Now don’t get me wrong, I think Al Habsi played well but did he really have that much to do? According to the stats they had 9 shots on target including the penalty & Suarez’s overhead kick that Caldwell saved. Aside from that I can remember 2 good saves early on, the save from Johnson which was hit at his feet & a save from a free kick. That leaves 3 efforts which haven’t even registered with me. I hardly think that warrants the “we’d have battered em if it hadn’t been for the keeper” slant
I bet the majority of penalties scored are blasted down the middle about 3/4 way up to the cross bar. I’ve always said that the goalie should feign to dive but stay put for a random number of pens. For obvious reasons they couldn’t get away with it every time.
As for the answer to the question, it was a brilliant save. He outwitted Big Boy Charlie on the night, simples.
As for Adams, that performance convinced me the other night, that he still is a championship player at best. When the scousers on their website are moaning about missing Lucas, I really don’t think that is a team that will be challenging for owt this season.
