How is it when we were in the lower leagues no one give a s…e about our crowds even the odd ball men didnt care, but soon as we reach the best league in the world, which i dont think it is just my opinion people jump down our throats about our attendances, not a mention of how much our fan base as grown, only one person as stated this fact and that was paul jewell on soccer sat the other week, but this week there were a lot of seats empty ta villa, sunderland, utd, liverpool, bolton, and even blackpool had empty seats in the home end but not one mention of this, just wish all the knockers would look at the facts and stop being so lazy, its easy to knock but if you look at the facts 1978 we came in the league in a rugby town so called but we still average more than them and we aint even won any major silverware nor do we have the history of our local rivals and the rugby club included,
10,000 empty seats in Birminghams 30,000 seater stadium didn’t look too good last week but nothing was said about it.
Also its a city with a population of 2M+ not a town of 80,000.
But as Griff says large crowds don’t get the points, and at the end of the day its the amount of points you get not the amount that watch the matches.
We have gone from division 3 to premier league in 10 years, attendances have gone up in that time but Wigan is a small rugby town, so its not going to happen over night. One thing nobody takes into to consideration is that we play in the North West, probably about 50% of the premier leagues overall attendance comes from the north west so there isn’t many spare fans to go around.
