“Rugby League is a smashing little sport but they’ve chosen to do play it in the back yard of a proper sport”, is, I think, how the phrase goes.

You have to admire the commercial and administrative nous of Super League, don’t you?
12 November 2010 at 5:39 pm #50872A commercial enterprise, rather than a sporting club, wasn’t it?
An effort at expansion of a minority sport. Yet nobody was bothered, or cared about them.
It was kind of like if they built an ice rink at the soccer dome and started a Ice Hockey team off, such as ‘Wigan Lightning’ or something. For a few weeks and games, the locals would go and have an inquisitive look. But they’d soon realise that the novelty has worn off and they’d soon drop off, leaving the club to go the same way as crusaders.
There’ll probably be a new team formed for next season. I wouldn’t be surprised if a Scottish team appeared. Edinburgh wouldn’t surprise me, after the ‘Magic’ weekend events they’ve had. Surprised it’s not already happened.
12 November 2010 at 8:32 pm #50891“inherited debt” caused the problem apparently.
Inherited from where exactly?

Maybe. If we’d won the Premier League and FA Cup a few times plus the Champions League there’d no doubt be plans in hand to build a new 60,000 seater stadium.13 November 2010 at 1:55 am #50913Anonymous
Indeed but the excitement of the chubbie brigade since they won the corridor league would lead the average wiganer thinking this ground isn’t big enough for the obese folk who follow the sport
