Thanks and congrats on getting off the mark in the guess the gate competition! I was very tempted to go slightly higher than you, as I knew that Leicester had pretty much sold out – I just wasn’t sure on how many seats in the corner had been left vacant for the Latics fans who were given the option of pay on the day. As there was a huge gap between you and the next guess, I took the cautious option for a guaranteed runner-up spot and a possible win.
5 January 2020 at 1:12 pm #183749To be fair, we were never at the races. Windass spent most of the time showing us how the offside rule works.
Just a shame we couldn’t have had a similar result as in the Birmingham game were we put in a below par performance then come away with a result.
For me we needed to play our strongest side but too many changes upset the apple cart.
Had the Lowe goal stood I’m sure it would have been squeaky bum time for Leicester.
What I don’t get is, why didn’t Geldhart get a start ?. Pearce gets chucked in (fair enough) and the new lad but Cook still thinks he’s not ready.
And before someone points out he didn’t influence the game when he came on. Firstly he came on to a game 2-0 down and when he did his pressure on Fuchs made him instantly put the ball out on more than one occasion.I’m not saying the result would have been any different with Geldhart on from the start or even say for an hour but I know one thing, we’ll never find out while Cooks in charge.
For Christ sake, it was a non influential game on the outcome of our season and Moore out, when would there have been a better chance ?. Good for the lad and good for the fans who see him as one of our own.
5 January 2020 at 1:33 pm #183750We’d have won 6-0 if Gelhardt started

I’d have started him personally, or at least brought him on as opposed to Lowe. All I can think is that it was seen as match fitness for Pearce and Dowell who will be in our plans further down the line whereas Gelhardt (for whatever reason) isn’t. We all know how good he is at his own age level.
In terms of the game, I thought it was pretty even until we stuck it in our own net. We had a few “chances” but as usual the final ball was off the mark. Windass needs to learn to time his runs if he is to play the striker role. The 2nd goal was a killer really and the tie just played out from there. Shame Lowe’s goal didn’t stand and we might have seen us go at them for 10 minutes but anybresult bar a replay was my pre-match thought.
5 January 2020 at 4:52 pm #183755I personally think players need to spot Windass’s runs a little early and get the ball to him Even after just one game Dowell made a comment in his interview about how good Josh is at playing on the defenders shoulders and making those runs.
One split second hesitation from the player on the ball leaves Windass in no-mans land. I’ve been saying it for ages we need a quality player who can preempt those runs rather than wait till Josh has made his move. The likes of Robbie Fowler made a career of playing off the defenders shoulders but was fortunate to have world class midfielders supplying him with ammunition. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!5 January 2020 at 5:27 pm #183756Agree…..a couple were Windass’s judgement error but a midfielder who can spot those runs and things would improve. Only problem is everyones after one of those.. Like commentator said about Vardy……starts offside but just at time ball played he’s moved back on..then defensive line has lost him and with pace to burn he’s gone………Didn’t think Moore was going to be sidelined so long……though Cook said it was a knock.
5 January 2020 at 6:19 pm #183758Agree JR. Our play is painfully slow at times.

5 January 2020 at 7:52 pm #183760Like egg says, everyone is going on as though he’s lionel messi and we would be well safe with him playing. If he was pulling up trees in training he’d be in.
From what ive seen he runs about, usually up his own arse, and then starts kicking people when he loses the ball. (See his challenge on chilwell)
Callum McManaman the 2nd. Everyone thought he was a worldie and all.

Or cook will try and shoehorn all 4 midfielders in and play the best defensive midfielder in the number 10 role
