The first half was good but Villa were poor and we should have done more.
The fight I always moan about seemed to be there.
The second half and that superb footballer Hendry Thomas loses our momentum.
The last 14 minutes was also ok.
I did come away thinking yes we lost but we actually had a go.
With regards Martinez, the subs were to late and Ronnie Stam? Is Moses not ready?
Better effort today but not enough to pick up anything against a team no better than us.

No, of course they aren’t. Just bought an England striker for £24 million, have players like Ashley Young, Gabriel Abhonlahor, and Stuart Downing, and-midfielders like Reo-Coker and Petrov…..but no, no better a team than us….
Far better. Top 8 side for last few years. Houlier will do a good job there. Funny how Lerner saw fit to give him the financial backing, yet not O’Neill.
26 January 2011 at 2:35 am #56827Nat, Nat!!!!
I agree with that 100%!!!
Seriously, I do. We were doing very well until Thomas self-destructed for both goals.
And the worst-timed political statement of all time was the “you don’t know what you’re doing” chant just as – finally – Bobby got two subs right; Boyce was dead on his feet and Thomas was just shyte.
Oh, and the “Martinez Out” banner? At least learn how to hold it up properly.

Crikey, a banner! Oh, I’m getting all giddy at the thought.
I think people were peeved that he didn’t add to the attacking options, I.E. Moses.Hendry Thomas= Bubba Gump. Only of less use. Deary me, how is that bloke playing in the Premiership? has to be the worst player, ever. I am sure Neill Rimmer, at what? 40 odd years of age, couldn’t play any worse.
26 January 2011 at 2:46 am #56844To be fair the guy with the banner was wearing a pair of Ugg boots so really his opinion on anything, ever, should be instantly discounted.

Why? Because he doesn’t agree with YOU, and one or two others. Not many, mate, not many.
Most people have made up their mind and can see how dire things are.
Not a personal attack on you, but you seem to be against anybody who criticizes him. (martinez)
He deserves it. Its shocking.
26 January 2011 at 3:00 am #568592-0 down. Martinez subs?
I know let’s bring on a DM in Watson, who clearly isn’t good enough and is out of form. Great and then we can keep one of the best young wingers in Europe bench warming, Moses looked shellshocked on the touchline.
Excellent decisions.

No. Perhaps it is because he is wearing women’s footwear at a football match and is unlikely to know any different. Or maybe the person wearing Ugg Boots and holding a ‘Martinez Out’ banner is an Oxford graduate. You never can tell.
Tyldesley Latic gives a good argument, and I respect his views. Loudmouthblue rarely shares my views, but I can agree with some of the things his posts, and I also find some of his posts amusing.
What I take exception to are the people who have vilified Whelan and are calling for his head in order to save our Premier League survival, when he is the man who got us there in first place.
As a second point, Martinez is the youngest and most inexperienced manager in the Premier League – remember that. He is an academically intelligent man – not ‘a clown’, ‘clueless’, ‘moron’, or any other of the terms referring to him. Surely with his ‘spin’ – that some of have been so critical of recently, people can see what he is trying to achieve, and that he’s never going to come out in public and criticise his team. Or, are people more gullible than I give them credit for?
Martinez, is not, however, the finished article by a long long way, and he has made a lot of mistakes. He is still learning, however, I will support him because he is the manager of ‘my’ football team, and I personally like what he tried to achieve – but that’s my opinion (similar to your liking for Van Morrison, and mine for Teenage Fan Club: different tastes, different opinions).
If Martinez is sacked, then so be it. I won’t shed tears, and I won’t spout off in favour of Martinez. In fact, I’ve never posted any ‘I told you so’ posts after a win, and cringe if anyone else does, as I know for every rise, there’s always a fall. When a new manager is appointed, I’ll support him too.

Well said Mr Standish I wish I could of put it that way
People forget that the reserves so long neglected by previous managers and the youth team are doing well in their respective leagues
This season as seen the emergence of Callum Macmanaman and Routledge Plus a English youth international In the goalkeeper young Nicholls I think
Bobby said we need foundations for the club and he is bringing it along

Let’s get all the waggons in a circle though. There’s an attack on the way for sure.26 January 2011 at 4:32 am #56897Well said Mr Standish I wish I could of put it that way

However, never having been a True Grit fan of the ‘cowwie’ I would rather think of our stand more on the lines of ‘Thermopylae’.
